Well yeah, that was understood and already mentioned. Can you name another one?
I remember when Pearl got the Auburn job how much of a big deal some people made about it. It's less than five guys, but to be fair, it's primarily assistants who end up having to fall on that sword. Indiana threw Sampson under the bus and actively worked with tr NCAA to fry him.

People think wade will never coach again
If Sampson is coaching Wade will definitely get another shot one day

I must have missed the part where the Houston athletic department is one of the top 5 most profitable in the country like LSU is.
They don’t have to be with Tillman funding everything.

Might be the first time in history someone left Houston for BR instead of the other way around.

I’d love Sampson Underwood Drew Few Beard Cronin Arizona’s coach Mussleman Beilein Gard
None of those coaches are leaving their schools. John belein might leave his admin job with the pistons, but he’s 100 years old.
Woodward is naive if he thinks he can pull his “white whale” in basketball right now. He will have to go up-and-comer, and he will have to hit if he doesn’t want to set the program back a decade.

Son is coach in waiting.
We got our AD from Houston and Sampson was the hot name for us when we fired Anderson. It didn't work out and the rumor was that Sampson demanded that his son be CiW here too. Can't imagine Woodward would agree to that either.

He coaches in a newly renovated arena paid for and named after one of the most avid sports fan alums in the country. Tilman Fertitta owns the Rockets, will eventually buy an NHL team and relocate it to Houston and is worth $6.8 Billion. He is a one man TAF.
Sampson has direct access to him and doesn't have to deal with a a fat arse inbred BOS or backwater state politics or play a distant second fiddle (for now) to football.
Now, he might leave, but it will not be for money and I would be highly suspicious of him if he did.

They are a lot more profitable than Gonzaga. And we aren't getting their coach either.

quote:Yeah, but he'd be nuts to leave that recruiting base. He pulls 2 or 3 kids out of Houston every year and he's always top 15.
Would be a home run hire. I don't know what he's making at Houston but I would definitely reach out to his agent if I was Woodward.
He could get a nice raise out of an SW inquiry, anyway.

After the lack of support Wade was shown by administration after he showed program consistent success it hadn’t seen in 30 years, the LSU job is not desirable for any top tier coach.

I laughed when they hired him, thinking he was another Tom Penders playing out the string. I was dead wrong. They lost a ton of guys off last years final four team and all he did was turn around and win 31 games and get to the sweet 16 this year.

A ‘home run’ hire????
He would be a GRAND SLAM hire

I mean dude will be 67 this year. His next jump will probably be the grave
Posted on 3/20/22 at 2:21 pm to Imber
He is not taking a demotion to come to LSU

Sampson made impermissible phone calls and texted guys when it was a new technology. Most of the violations are no longer violations.
Baylor faced NCAA sanctions under Scott Drew’s watch. Not from the previous guy, but his own (assistant).
It’s not always simple.
Will Wade may have to get back into coaching in a less glamorous way because of the nature of the allegations.
Also, we’re not talking an SEC football opening. Kentucky is the only real “no-brainer leave your current gig” SEC basketball job.

We better not have fired Will Wade to turn around and hire Kelvin fricking Sampson. If possible, I would like a younger coach. He's pushing 60.

Nick Saban is 70. Good thing we didn't hire him when we had an opening for a football coach.

I would like a younger coach, that's only one of the reasons I don't want Sampson.

Makes $6 mil and is 67 years old. Otherwise, I agree.
