Davin Cotton had three tackles. Tae Provens had four carries.
That's it. That's all you are losing. The other players recorded no stats and did not play at all.
Eventually, you need upperclassmen to anchor your team. How is losing players that the team would rely on for experience a good thing?

You can't keep everyone. Might as get rid of the lowest rated players who are freshmen and can go play elsewhere so you don't waste resources on them
Why sign them in the first place?

This exact excuse was used to explain how O couldn't be expected to perform in 2017.

We don’t need depth, unless it’s the day after we got our arse handed to us by Mississippi State and we’re searching for ways to spin things.

Looks like the melt has been cancelled

It’s that outside of the 5 or so guys that contributed as freshman, that class leaves a lot to be desired.
Don't most classes after one year? Five or so true freshmen starting is A LOT believe it or not.
quote:
It was filled with Jucos and Transfers that will be gone after this upcoming year and on top of that
And every one of them played and most started - Burreaux, Lewis, Tracy, Traore, Giles were all starters. Moss has been hurt and Alexander provided much needed depth.
What is the difference in getting JUCO's and transfers for two years OR having players that won't start until their junior or senior seasons? Not everyone starts as a freshman in college.
quote:
on top of that, the bottom of the class is transferring out.
Better than the top of the class. Again, what makes you think it is their decision? LSU may still be above the maximum amount of players allowed.
quote:
That’s 11 guys off the top of my head that are gone before that class even becomes juniors.
Tracy is already gone and his replacement is already known. Is it not common for college football teams to lose players every year.
Lewis
Traore
Tracy
Burrow
Fohoko
Giles
These six players from your list contributed and most started and are still with the team and starting. Would you have rather not have them?
quote:
I’m a pro O guy so I’m Not just bashing to bash.
This is a real concern
It is, but it is not a concern that every college football team doesn't have to deal with every year. This is not something that is new or unique to LSU.
I think it is great that most of the transfers and JUCO's are starters. Better than the alternative.
Could you imagine LSU without Burrow, Tracy, Fehoko and Lewis last season?

This whole thread is about Kelvin Joseph so if you are leaving him out then your whole take is in the wrong thread.
Really? What thread would be better to point out the news that he is not leaving?

You can nitpick and spin all you want, it’s not a good thing when you lose the majority of a class before they are juniors.
It puts a ton of pressure on the other 3 classes to fill all the holes on your team and leaves you without valuable upperclassmen experience.
Again, no one is worried about 2019. It’s 2020 and 2021 that will feel the weight of that class.
I’m also not saying this will definitely lead to any down years, I’m just saying that it’s less than ideal.
I’m a pro O guy so this isn’t coming from some hater. It’s just a fan accepting facts as facts.

Moss signed with LSU June 5, 2017.
Pretty sure Washington and Pettigrew saw playing time in 2017.
Correct me if I’m wrong (and I’m not).

So I guess now that KJ is coming back that sucks for us. No freshman or sophomore will be taking his spot anymore.
Such a stupid argument.

LSU HAS to lose players. If not the lowest rated and least likely to be starters or even play, WHO do you think they should process?

IF LSU can get under the scholarship limit the transfer portal works both ways. There are a lot more players in the portal than there are scholarships in Div 1 football.

Well Joseph isn't leaving. The rest of the guys leaving is a necessity. LSU did not want Cotton to leave. EVERY ONE of these players would be leaving LSU even if there were no transfer portal.
So you can accept the facts but it doesn't change the fact that this was going to happen no matter what - portal or no portal - you can only have 85 scholarship players.
the one thing you never discuss and I have asked a couple times is who do you think should be leaving if not the guys on the list?

Washington got hurt for the season... Pettigrew had 1 rec for 18 TDs so tell me how you're right. And while you're at it tell me how that doesn't signal more depth at TE
Posted on 5/20/19 at 4:14 pm to TennesseTiger
Besides even if they did play what would it matter if Jacory played his last season last yr and Pettigrew is a sr? We literally only have 3 Te rn. So tell me again how we didn't/shouldn't have more depth at that position?

Correct
Incorrect. If that player has become a distraction and his challenge to authority so out of line it may very well be time for a change. That being said the talent coming in is such that the Aranda defense won't miss a beat.
