What if he gets half the carries next week? Or more? Would it make any difference that Kelly didn’t call him “the guy”?

It wouldn't but for now all we have is what he said not speculation.

OTOH, what if he comes out and gets stuffed for the entire first half, but Williams or Jackson are rolling? Should Durham still be the “feature back” based on the SC game?

What do you think the chances of this actually happening are?

I don’t think it’s likely. I’m just trying to make a point (well really 2 points):

1. He’s going to get more snaps after Saturday’s performance. If he continues to produce he’ll probably see even more.

2. To caveat #1, he has to be able to execute the full offense. If not, he’s going to hit a barrier until he can. This would not be shocking to see for a true freshman.

Kelly also said that Durham had great vision and ability to bounce, and that it’s something you can’t really coach into a guy. He also said Durham had set an example of what they need/expect from the other RBs in the run game in terms of breaking tackles and getting to daylight. tRant is making it out to be negative but it really wasn’t at all.

Kelly's got two years after this one to prove himself. Not properly utilizing players like Durham won't get him to those two. I get that it's coach speak, but we should see 40% Durham, 25% Williams, 25% Kaleb and 10% whoever else can handle some end around or a novel idea use a FB for a carry or two.

That just means we will need all three to be successful. When one guy misses his gap and gets hammered, it sets it up for the next back who doesn’t. The defense tries to play them the same way and gets surprised.

From what I’ve seen there are holes and gaps enough for all of them. We just don’t have one back that sees and hits them consistently.

It doesn't matter who "the guy" is. Frank has never been good with his rotations. Get a hot hand, here comes another back. I was pleasantly surprised they rode Durham as much as they did. Though Williams scored, I didn't agree with subbing out Durham on those 2 goal line snaps at the end. Durham should have been there.

He probably hasn't honed in his pass blocking skills. That's why he isn't the "guy"

Jackson, early in the game, had a huge hole off of Frazier’s arse that would have went for a huge gain had he had the vision and instincts. He looked better on 2 outside runs ( which I think is where he can thrive ) but has to be able to run inside also. We’ll see what Durham does over the next couple games if he gets enough carries to be able to show he deserves the lion’s share. I think he can be “the guy” if he gets 12-15 touches or more, where I haven’t seen that yet from Jackson. Williams is just a guy that is going to be average but solid in all phases of a RB’s job ( that’s why he plays as much as he does and understandably so ).
