What I'm reading here is that college students have zero thinking skills. To restate, you cussing on your own probably won't be dealt with, but the band will not be allowed to play music that "appears" to encourage vulgar chants. If you like the band's music, quit the immature chants.

Chanting stupid stuff with the band's music will have the consequence of the band being told to quit playing, and more piped in music being funneled in.

As a student in the SS tonight I really was embarrassed. Seemed like it was only me and one other guy behind me that were just like really this shite again?

Well you probably were in the minority but it's nice to know there are still a few students that don't act like idiots. It seems that a football game just happens to break out during their partying and it tends to get in the way of their "fun"!

That's the only thing that will get through to these "children". They don't respect LSU traditions and could care less about losing them do to their drunken behavior!

And doing what they want has gotten some good songs banned like Tiger Rag. I bet most of the students today don't even know what the Tiger Rag is or sounds like. The students just need to learn to pick their battles.

Not if we want the games to be televised!

You are going to hear vulgarities in football stadiums but some of these students needs some common sense, they are really just hurting themselves by doing what they do collectively during these songs.

It's everyone's loss, but they don't seem to get it.

the problem with this thread and the anti-student rhetoric is really quite simple--student chants don't in any way minimize the success of the team or program.

Like all LSU alums and most fans, I love the band and when they step on the field and play those few notes and the crowd goes nuts it's one of the best if not THE best pregame traditions in all of college football.

Same with the first down beat and Chinese Bandit ditty. Awesome.

However to suggest than I miss or most fans miss the band playing "neck" is absurd. I have never left Tiger Stadium saying gosh y'all it sure was fun beating the crap out of Bama and Saban but damn I just can't enjoy it because the band no longer plays "Neck"

Yall seriously need to stop. Half the stadium yells kick their arse. So 40k people need to grow up.

Oh and tiger rag was banned in what? 03 or 04. So all those student are in their late 20s early 30s. Shouldnt even attend lsu anymore unless they are on an 8 year plan.

It's just more ammo for those who think of LSU as a second rate redneck college.

No such thing as a "Redneck College." Real rednecks don't attend college.

BTW, what bothers me the most about the student section vulgarities is the overreaction of the athletic department in making TGBFTL change their traditional musical routine because of it.

From what I hear (and it could be bullshite, although I'm not so sure), the stadium and student section will soon get a shot of reality and authority. I mean very little music from the band other than on the field. That will be sad.

This is a big concern for Alleva. He has said as much in the past, and you'd better believe that he's itching for the chance to take seats away from the students and give them to paying customers.

Other possible consequences are stopping Tiger Band from playing altogether except for just the fight song and maybe one or two other occasions. This ruins the experience for everybody in the stadium.

This absolutely spot on. If you guys want to be badasses on TD, fine. But this is a very real possibility.

Our tickets aren't free.

Yours cost $12.

Mine cost $40, $50 or $70 depending on the game plus a $210 per season ticket MANDATORY fee just to buy the tickets. My total for a single north end zone ticket was $620 this year. I have 5.

At $12 each for your tickets, I'd say they were free.

I am quite certain that the cost of student tickets is subsidized by the university.

College students have money. They're always on here scalping their $12 tickets. I live near campus and my neighbor (a student) came home the other day with a 40 or 50 something inch flat screen TV that he had bought at Sam's Club.

I think most students can come up with the $72 or $84 or $96 it costs to buy football tickets (and that's if you get all games depending on the number of games.) That's the only sport that charges for students' entrance into games.

I doubt there's any leaders within the student community to realize the consequences AND have the ability to take action on this.

No need to try to change them...

but good try.

As a recent graduate of LSU, I can say that I paid enough to them in tuition and other costs that I deserved a break on football tickets. And to make a sweeping statement that all college students have money is absurd, many of my friends had to live very frugally and many would not have been able to attend football games had they been as expensive as you pay. We, as students, deserve to go to the football games for $12 bucks a game as we are the lifeblood of the university (excuse the cliche).
