There was an article about Randy in GQ magazine a number of years ago basically calling him the best that never was....obviously this is me paraphrasing and using the Marcus Dupree story title...

Basically the author talked about what Randy had gone through with injuries and how it has killed his career. The author spoke of seeing him at a camp when he was in high schooll and that he had beaten jerry stackhouse so bad the entire camp that many of the scouts left wondering if stackhouse could play at all

The dude was great. We just never got to experience it

Chris Jackson was a better high school player and I saw both play multiple times in high school. That's not a knock on Randy, because Chris is the best player I've ever seen on the high school and college level.

Jason Kidd-esque

Jason Kidd played in the largest classification in California against much better competition than Livingston. Kidd led his school, St. Joseph's of Alameda to consecutive state championships without any teammates who played major college basketball. And as good as Kidd was in high school he was not the best I saw in California. That distinction goes to Bill Cartwright.

Regardless of high school competition, Livingston was every bit as good as Jason Kidd. He shared National Player of the Year with Kidd when Kidd was a senior and Livingston a junior.

I played against him. He was smooth, athletic, could shoot, and most importantly, he played the game the RIGHT WAY. I see him possibly having had a career like a Kevin Johnson.

exactly. He played on a team with little talent. I know they won 2 state titles. in his soph and JR year. Maybe even a 3rd, i dont recall totally.

Peyton Manning was the best QB in the nation, and no one talked about him because Randy Livingston overshadowed him. He was that big time.

He was 2 time Parade co player of year. With Jason Kidd then Rasheed Wallace. He was unbelievable. I used to keep track of all the Parade teams and he was only 2 time poy. Lebron might have done it to but not sure. I watched lead Newman to 3 strait st titles.

For you guys that know a lot about Randy Livingston, was he ever the National Player of the year and if so, did he share that award with anyone?

I remember when Parade All-American was the highest honor you could get as a recruit. I used to have a copy of every team they ever published.

Did somewhere in this thread people start posting about Chuck Norris and not Randy Livingston?

One time after a HS game Randy Livingston went swimming. When he jumped in the pool he didn't get wet. The water got Randy Livingstoned!

What made Randy so good was that he played mentally so far ahead of everyone else. Great atheletes like him rarely have the ability to also see the game in a different way, most just get by on their talent alone. Being blessed with both is what seperates the good from great.

I went to Newman and went to games as a kid. Randy was taking alley oops out of the air and throwing down "Jordanesque" dunks for a HS kid. It blew my mind watching him as a 10-12 year old kid. Would have been an incredible Tiger had his knees held up
