I hate when coaches pull a hot pitcher like this. You run him back out there every time

This, Yoiu lose with your arguably best most dynamic arm able to go you are dumb, you put him in and it doesnt work out you are dumb

Jump did his job, that dude was gifted a call by the ump to not be sitting on the bench. Then the Brown miscue.

Ack was wasting a lot of pitches way out of zone and I also questioned his sustained success for 9th.

because the plan was to only use Jump for one inning.
the 9th.
with a lead

That lead was being threatened in the 8th and he didn't go with Jump and needing 3 outs. So Ack is good enough to pitch with a runner in scoring position, but not good enough to pitch with no one on?

o, not because he didn't have it or gave up the tying/winning runs.

Pitching is a mindset/mentality. Jump has been trained all season to be a starter. The routine is different, he knows he can give up a few hits, walks, etc and still be ok through 6/7 innings.

Ack on the other hand has had the mindset of a reliver role. Bringing him in high pressure situations, having to get an out or two, K a batter with a lefty/lefty matchup, etc etc.

There's no doubt Jump is the better pitcher of the 2, but in that situation, you have to at minimum let Ack role out there for a batter and see how he does. He had momentum from the previous inning and shut them down.

Keeping Ack in for the 9th was exactly what I thought. He had just struck out 3 batters in the 8th with the bottom of the lineup coming up. Try him and see. He was a hero last year. I was yelling at the screen when they put in Jump and a bad feeling about it.

I'll come out of left field here and say I would've rode the Hellmers train longer to see if he could finish it. He was still throwing strikes low in the zone and forcing ground balls to the infield (except the single) when they were able to hit him. Just me and a bunch of others, but we don't coach LSU....

Jump was the right move at the right time. Before the top of the ninth started, if the baseball gods offered a strikeout, an out front capper, and an absolute broken handle jam sandwich for the first three hitters of the inning, every coach in America would take that deal. Dude gave up two hits in which the pitch he made was better than the hitters swing, but as fate would have it, both hitters got away with it and tied the game. It happens because it’s baseball.

The only thing worth griping about is that they didn’t exploit the outside called strike 3 to both right handed hitters with two strikes on em that inning. They kept trying to bust them up and in when 6 inches off the plate outside has been called all game

I 100% agree before Jump came in I was telling my wife the same, leave Ack in till a walk, HB or base hit. Over coached IMO. Also the LSU offense left the ball park and never came back.

Really he had two outs and two strikes
On the batter! That was a fluke play, 9 times out of 10 Brown makes that catch. Baseball is baseball things happen good and bad. I bring Jump in every time in that situation.

It was the wrong move because they lost but 100/100 times you'd feel good prior to Jump going into the game.

People around here act like it's some novel strategy to bring in a starter to get some outs. It was the right move, it just didn't work out.
