Josh Williford 6-7 335 FR
Clay Spencer 6-6 285 SO
These 2 positions will be a battle all spring and fall, IMO. There is no one proven player there that is the clear #1.

How good/bad is Williford? I know he's huge, but I haven't heard much else about him.
Miles has been talking him up. Here's what Barksdale has to say courtesy of Tiger Rag:
quote:
With that alignment on the right-hand side, the combination of Will Blackwell and up-and-comer Josh Williford will compete for time at the left guard spot.
Williford, in particular, has caught the eye of coach Les Miles. Has he had the same affect on Barksdale?
“He (Williford) is definitely getting a lot better. He’s a lot stronger than he thinks, and he’s pretty strong right now,” said Barksdale, laughing a bit before he continued. “I wouldn’t wanna line up in front of Williford because he’s big and strong and he can move. When he gets it, it’s gonna be nasty.”

I think Hurst is going to be great this year.

Josh D was bad last year, I wish Miles would put him 2nd string where he belongs.

I'm just encouraged that Miles/Stud are trying different players at different positions and that the practices are physical. The cream will rise. I don't think that we had the depth to do this in the last two years. I expect good results from this move.

So Hurst plays well at RG last year and we move him to RT instead of giving Greg Shaw (last year's backup) a shot it? Brilliant move.

I'm not sure where you heard the practices were physcial, but the videos I've seen, and the fact that they have yet to go full pads, would lead me to believe otherwise.

I disagree with your thinking here. Get the 5 best guys on the field regardless where they played last year. Is it possible that Hurst is a better tackle and had to fill in at guard because of need? Maybe Hurst is a better OT than Shaw. We really don't know. Probably need to give it another week in pads.

I think Hurst is pretty much in and the battle will be between Williford and Blackwell

PLEASE give me a lineup of:
LT: Barksdale
LG: Hurst
C: Lonergan
RG: Blackwell
RT: JD
That line would wreck people. It'd also have some pretty athletic tackles who could move in space. Maybe we'd see the tunnel screen brought back (if we can find a QB who can throw it

Josh has put on a ton of muscle in the offseason and is now over three hundred pounds. He's worked his arse off this offseason.
Exactly what offseson are you refering too. The last game was a little over two months ago. If he has put on that much weight it can't be good weight

Last year our Oline problem was at Center( two new Cs ) and Guard ( Josh D and Hitt played poorly ). I like Hurst and Blackwell at Guards because they are big and played well at the limitted time they got last year. If this year's Oline plays well they will be together for 2-3 years.
