I have criticized JJ as much or more than most on here and I will say JJ seemed in my mind to play his best stretch in his career coming off the bench last season. Not great but in retrospect the games such as Florida/Auburn where he played roughly about 30-40% the Lee/JJ combo presented a pretty good package.

As opposed to when he became the only player to play qb after the Bama game and the offense changed from a power running vertical passing game with some option and qb runs to a power running/option/qb run offense exclusively. I honestly believe Lee starting with JJ playing as much as needed depending on Lee's performance on 1/9/12 may have led to a completely different story.

It may not have but we know what happened on 1/9/12 with JJ playing exclusively. Couldnt have been any worse.

Hopefully Jefferson can use this as positive motivation for his life after football. He was able to get a great scholarship at a good school. Hopefully he took advantage of the knowledge and will be able to succeed in the real world.

Fans are still too close to the Jan 9 loss to have perspective on his career, but in a few years he'll be remembered as a winner here.

Jordan Jefferson will absolutely be drafted, will absolutely make a roster, and will absolutely take regular season snaps in the NFL. I will happily bet any and all takers- Hot Carl 11/29/11

no, no, and no

Jan 9th was just the icing on the cake for this kid's career.
Sorry to break it to you, but being known as a winner is not going to be high on the list of what most LSU fans remember JJ as in 50 years, much less a few.

I think of guys like Russell and Flynn as winners. You know... guys that led us to victories or at some point put us on their back and won a game for us. We often won in spite of JJ's awful performances.

At some point, common sense does prevail.

Not a response to TIGRLEE but just some thoughts in retrospect:

To my knowledge, JJ never gave less than a 100%. He was on the field because he was sent on the field. He ran the plays that he was told to run or he audibled as permitted. I for one have zero problems "forgiving" someone for a mistake on the field while giving their all.

IMO, JJ was asked to play too early (true FR), inherited a lot of baggage (from JL '08 - who also was asked to do more than he was ready for), and was asked to play in a way that he was never ready for. In hindsight, JJ should have been a role player (much like he was used vs UK), but that's hindsight.

The reason JJ never endeared himself to us is because of all the statements made off field. And indeed some people struggle in front of cameras (even Limbaugh said he was uncomfortable in front of TV cameras as compared to a mic in a studio). JJ never seemed fully comfortable on TV. Why someone could not have coached him to preface his answers to give credit to his teammates, accept responsibility, acknowledge his opponents, etc I have no idea.

So now someone who was a vital part of some great seasons, wins, and moments is held to scorn. That's sad.

And this is the same Carl who is always so angry on the rant and tells people to kill themselves for being so dumb?

I will agree with some of what you said as in he should have been coached to make better statements and he should have been a role player.

Where I will disagree with you is whether he was coached to use better terms in his interviews or not the fact that in the majority of his interviews he used "I" instead of "we" when describing how well he played instead of how well the team played.

Also many of those times he told us how well he had played were patently ridiculous and even a casual fan knew in a game he put up 4 yards of total offense or threw for less than 30 yards while playing the majority of the game the team won in spite of him instead of because of him. The fact that he repeatedly told us how well he played in these situations combined with Miles' stubborn refusal to pull JJ in many of these occasions all contributed to the way many Tiger fans feel about JJ.

Combined with that anytime you criticized JJ here his faithful would immediately label you a racist, a hater, claim you wanted to lynch JJ and post some ridiculous spreadsheet trying to prove JJ was an elite qb. While not JJ's fault those so called JJ white knights probably hurt the way many viewed JJ almost as much as JJ's play and quotes!

Fixed it for you; agree with what you're saying. I think thought he big thing is that despite all the mistakes he's made he at least had the commitment required to be on a top 10 team. He'll do fine in life if he keeps his chin up. Hopefully he read books in college better than he did defenses. There are very few jobs out there that require the quick decision making needed of an SEC QB (Military, hedge fund trader neither of which he'll go into) and very few jobs where you can't be moderately successful if you have a good attitude and put the hours in. This is probably a big blow to his ego and when that happens to most folks they change course eventually and re-invent themselves.

I'm suprised it took a week to release him, but then again that's probably how long it took him to throw a pass.........

He was instrumental in beating Bama the first time, no doubt. It wouldn't have matterd in the NC game, we got whipped... can't wait for Nov. 3.

I was not negative at all about the situation.. I was hoping that he not only made the team, but that he won the starting QB job.

Look, I'm not a particular fan of JJ (beyond the extent to which I support all the guys who put on the uniform for LSU), but JL, despite his success in the first half of the season, had equally troublesome holes in his game. The problem was less Miles' "stubborness" than his and his coaches' inability to recruit and develop a quarterback worthy of playing with that great team.

Yep.

Perhaps - we got whipped because we never attacked Bama to counter what they were doing on D. Even as good as Bama was on D they can't defend the whole field. All it would have taken was a single play or two to bring the game into a different ebb-n-flow. Instead, (and this isn't all on JJ), our total offensive ineptness disallowed that.
