Now that begs the question, how many LSU players does it take to throw a basketball at a bag wearing fan?

I posted earlier in the season that this would be the worst lsu basketball team in the last 15-20 years.

I've never thought the Jones hire would be anymore that a 4-5 year waste of time. That said, his first LSU team was arguably less talented that this group (though probably a bit more experienced) and he was still able to lead them to a .500 record in SEC play. The league today is stronger top to bottom than it was then, but even I didn't see this complete debacle taking place. I thought they would win somewhere between 6-8 SEC games.

This team isn't great, but they should be much better than a 1 win SEC squad. Jones coaching has always been weak, so what's different? The answer is that the team has quit on him. They're probably playing a bit for each other and themselves, but they've largely tuned Jones out and he can't motivate them. That's a bad thing when you can't teach the game.

The team/program actually quit at the end of last season, but now it's 100% confirmed (at least it should be). Once a program quits on the coach, it's over, and their is no coming back from that abyss.

Best case scenario would be for LSU to let go of Jones quickly and allow the new coach a chance to come in and salvage the roster. None of these guys (even Blakeney) are NBA players right now. The new coach could start next season with virtually his entire roster returning.

I think with Carmouche, JOB3, Shavon Coleman, Hickey, Stringer and Malik Morgan his first team had more talent than anyone gives them credit for. Because Tuba played 10 minutes a game IMHO folks tend to overestimate their accomplishments that year. I think given the relative talent of the teams we played we finished about where we should have.

Still it was Johnny's best year as I don't think we we have accomplished that since (finishing the year about where we should have considering relative talent to the teams on our schedule).

This...IMHO it takes time for a culture of lack of accountablity to manifest itself. The first year the kids bring in their work ethic and other intangibles from previous coaches and programs, they will as kids always do, push the envelope and test to see what they can get away with, and the more they are able to get away with things the more they will try to get away with more until it becomes part of the culture of the program.

After the way last year ended and half the players on this year's team back from having been part of that, I could not fathom any scenario where Johnny could recover from that. And predictably, he has not.

Because Clarence Caesar has threatened that there'll be no more Alumni Games if he does.

For those who want the axe to fall now, what good would it do at this point? Just let it play out so the ultimate act will be justified to the max. Even more important, any worthwhile candidate will be busy coaching through at least the middle of March.

The writing was on the wall last year. But many still had high hopes for this season and bought season tickets.

It will take a few crowds of less than 500 for Alleva to notice

Do you people really believe that Alleva doesn't "notice" what's going on? People are griping and saying that he should "address" the situation. What do you want him to say publicly? Short of firing Jones mid-season, which in my opinion serves no purpose at this point, what exactly is Alleva supposed to come out and say?

I think this is why the AD is giving JJ so much rope to hang himself with. It's just a big frick you yo those guys who forced JJ into the job.

Exactly. Joe appreciates sarcasm very very much and he's sitting back saying here's your boy. Watch him do his thing.

He's gonna let JJ go down in flames for Dale, Collis, and all the rest to see so they will effectively be neutered when the decision gets made public

Johnny Jones lost control of a talented team last season. Johnny "The Great Recruiter" has again lost control of a non-talented team. Why does this team lack talent? Why is Johnny still the coach?

Alleva should have fired Jones after last season's embarrassment. Alleva better ace the next basketball coach or his AD job will be made miserable by the fans. Good riddance Johnny Jones, you've destroyed LSU basketball.

If you start the season, and you only have a continually foul prone Craig Victor and a skinny unknown Reath as your only low post presence, then you totally screwed up on recruiting. Throw in piss poor coaching and lack of motivation by Johnny Jones and this is what we get. Most people knew this season would be a total shite show.

Skillet with that rationale, people are begging JJ for another year. Saying he couldn't control this and that.

Alleva needs to make a statement saying he will be evaluating the program at season ends. If Daddy Dale and Temple don't like it they can be thrown in jail for forcing Alleva to make this hire. They are the reason the basketball program is in shambles.

I agree. Alleva is going to fire Jones. The media would be breathing down his neck if he was documented as firing the football and basketball coaches in one season.

Save the outrage for whether or not he botches the replacement hire.

His contract is up at the end of the season. They're going to ride it out rather than buy it out.
