I get the 3rd and Chavis stuff. I wasn't happy at times either, but Chavis never had a great complimentary offense. His defenses were constantly on the field due to all those 3 downs and punt offenses at LSU during his tenure. Chavis was constantly asked to win the game every Saturday. The man held Alabama to 6 freaking points in the 2011 game that LSU won 9-6. The NC game that year, LSU's offense couldn't even cross the 50 yard line until the 2nd half. That wears on any defense, when their offense can't put together drives, so they can rest on the sideline. Chavis more than held up coaching on his side of the football. Without Chavis, Miles wins total at LSU would have plummeted.

Please explain how his defenses were exposed at LSU.

Also, it’s whose not who’s, dumbass.

Lol exposed. He had to put up with an offense who had problems throwing for 100 yards a game

I agree, but his talent base did as well compared to LSU.

I’m not gonna respect a guy who was recruiting for another team while under contract at LSU and then sued LSU for not wanting to pay him to recruit for another team.

Respect?

Knock Yosef out!

He tried to stiff LSU by quitting on team, then lying and trying to grab $’s and run to Aggies, where he was immediately lain bare/EXPOSED!!!

This isn't accurate, the LSU offense was a pretty ideal pairing for his D. Not even going to start on him wasting natural pass rushers like Danielle Hunter or his love affair with the too big for safety LB types

We're also going to ignore him contributing jack shite on the recruiting front leaving his D that heavily relied on the front 7 pretty barren? Dave getting solid LB play with what he was left by Chavis in year one was pretty amazing.

the TJ Yeldon 2012 Bama loss was also 100% on Chavis

A&M fans should hate him more though considering he just used them to pad his retirement account.

I’m ok with acknowledging he was good while at LSU but the respect is not there with the way he handled things at the end.

Chief's defenses were very good. In 2014, we had the number 1 defense in the SEC.

However, he consistently failed in crunch time. Critical 3rd downs were almost always given up and 2 minute defenses almost always gave up a score.

I understand he was put in difficult positions because of an ineffective offense, but that is no excuse to fail in crunch time.

For your information, he quit due to Joe Alleva wanting him to sign the Les Miles clause. Where assistant coaches contracts would not be honored if Miles Resigned or was fired. Can't blame the man for wanting some financial security.

quote:

Before leaving LSU in December 2014, Chavis told people that LSU’s treatment of Miles — and the “Les Miles clause” — was a sign the school planned to fire the coach in the same unceremonious fashion Tennessee fired Fulmer in 2008. The "Les Miles clause" ties assistants to Miles. If he is fired or resigns, LSU staff members’ contracts won’t be fully honored. A similar clause appeared in the contracts of Tennessee assistants — including Chavis, then UT’s defensive coordinator.

frick him. I'll never forgive or forget 2012.

First off, the 2012 Alabama game needs no revisitation. Plus, I have a fair amount of family that are Clemson fans and alums. Let's not forget that horrendous Peach Bowl against Clemson in 2012. Remember the 4th and 16 conversion? We freaking held Clemson to under 220 yards, yet we give up 25 points and a 4th & 16 conversion. Inexcusable.

Also, the manner in which he left LSU... I can't stand the prick. I'm glad he's failed miserably at A&M and Arkansas.

frick "the Chief."

agreed. like gary crowton said miles liked to keep it close and pull it out in the 4th! he always relied on D to save his arse. of course it will backfire at times when that is your style. and it did. chavis did well here. #2 defense in 2011.

all those 3 and outs he faced and not enough points to give him any type of support especially in those bama games win or lose. 2011, 2012, 2014. even clemson 2012. offense had 6- 3 and outs. SECCG offense had 7 straight 3 and outs. how we pulled that off is surreal.

How tired do defensive players get when they are on the field 40 of the 60 minutes? The LSU offenses weren't leading in the time of possession.
