Down payment for the eventual time he is the OC. OC in waiting with upfront payments now. Reduces the size of the contract when the time comes.

Wouldn’t be surprised if O didn’t offer x% of his certainly deserved raise to come.

Someone said “keep the band together” ..... as long as you can .... says it all. I would add, at whatever the price may be.

If he’s getting paid 1.8 million, he’s the OC by title next year. He’s already calling plays as it is

There’s another possible explanation. Perhaps Joe Brady is the second or third most important contributor to the offensive coaching. Maybe $450K is his market value.

But if it’s $1.8 MM per year that says it all.
