Sorry I started this thread. I agree this subject has been run in the ground.

I had just been trying to get up to speed on JJ and thought I'd ask the question.

My appologies to the board.

True. It doesn't matter because I know Coach Miles will find a way to beat the Ducks regardless. Ducks are going down!

No need to apologize. You are not the only one who starts these threads...

He's very timid...I think it has alot to do with watching Jarret lees pick 6 season and how he was blasted by fans. If you want stats though his stats are better against OOC teams and especially when he has time to prepare in a big game

If you want some good reading about JJ that will only make you want to kill yourself, read the other billion threads that are about 20-50 pages long.

His mistakes don't necessarily come when he's under pressure. I'm not even sure if he feels the pressure. He seems to make mistakes about as inconsistently as he plays the position, so it's hard to put a thumb on it.

Half the time he's money. Half the time he's not. And I don't think the other team affects him one way or the other... if that even makes sense.

exactly. he's just wildly inconsistent with his accuracy, that's his biggest issue. not saying he doesn't have other flaws, but if he could just consistently make some routine throws he'd be almost guaranteed 15 TD passes at least. I can think of a handful that he missed last yr that weren't tough throw.

on the bright side, after the bye week, he looked more like his 09 self (if you throw out ULM where both QBs were ). so there's hope that he's getting back to being serviceable.

Hopefully Kragthrope is working hard to improve his fundamentals, correcting his inaccuracy.

our QB for most of 2008 tied the record for pick sixes in a career ... and he did it in a single season.

Which just eclipsed the mark set by our other QB from the "dark years" who nearly set the career pick-6 record in a single game... check that... in a single quarter. (6 INT's in the game, 5 in the 4Q, 3 of those taken to the house)

Sure, most of his flaws can be coached. Realistically, will they in such a short time? Most likely not. You might see improvements in his game but it is very rare to see a QB take such a huge leap forward in a matter of months. I've seen it before but it is very rare. JJ has too many flaws. Improvement is always nice, so anything is better than nothing.

Thats just it he doesn't really make mistakes. So far he has overall been to gun shy to let it rip. I think the frustation for most LSU fans is that he doesn't take chances. We could live with a few mistakes if he would just cut it loose more.

Again, there is no need to apologize, but as I knew before this summer started, LSU's QB situation would be the most talked about subject this summer. JJ has been inconsistent, has some athletic ability, but to me, has not shown that much improvement from one year to the next and that's why I am hoping that when fall drills start, he will truly have to earn the position of #1--he was not impressive in the spring game.

I don't think you can say that he is just going to look bad again this year. Every year their are 3-4 guys on noticeable teams (probably is a lot more for all FBS but don't want to go into all that) that during their senior year it just all falls into place or the light comes on. Some of it is usually due to a new OC but most of it is just everything coming together. Maybe it's maturity, maybe it's going out in style, but whatever it is it catches a few college QBs and make or break their careers.

Accuracy is so underrated. They say it is something that can be coached but in reality, most QBs either have it or don't.

You are a dumb poster! How many interceptions did he throw last year? Everyone in the stands and on the field knew when the coaches sent him in, that he was going to have to throw the ball. He was blitzed on almost every down and still came through in the clutch. Get over his freshman year, that was a long time ago. As for JJ people should quit making excuses for him. This is is sr. year and the coaches are going to prepare him just like always. I hope new coaching can help. But after him stinking it up in the spring game, I don't hold much hope. At least there is quality help to bail him out if the wheels fall off again.

I'm just curious what you guys think.

I don't think JJ is a great QB at all, but much of his problems can be linked to Crowton. The Cotton Bowl was a game where the team stuck to more pro-set with playaction and Jefferson had a decent game.

Has the LSU training staff tried making JJ consume a pot of coffee before games?

He always plays like that guy who smokes a big fattie in the morning, and never really recovers.

Nice try, but, uh, no. Urban myth. No drop-offs for any of them, like we saw with JJ

still can't believe Smith won that Heisman. If there was ever an example of the Heisman being a popularity contest....
