Got to hand it to him, he's going out and getting the best people available for his programs

I mean, he is the athletic director. It’s kind of in his job description to get the best coaches for his program.

Really? Would you happen to know what's in Joe Alleva's job description then?

Agreed. But I think the guy would still be successful at other schools with less money to work with.

As long as FU King is here though, Woodward replacing Alleva is a pipe dream.

There's nothing magical, innovative or exemplary about overpaying for talent. It's more impressive if you recognize talent before it reveals itself on the biggest stage.
aTm has a huge amount of cash to spend.
Other than 2013, Jimbo's FSU results in a relatively weaker conference were not that spectacular.

Totally agree!
When you have an unlimited checking account from A&M then its quite easy reeling in the top coaches. I wouldnt give him to much credit.

exactly. and there are risks involved. I doubt the womens golf coach set them back that much; woodward has a pass right now and he's striking while the iron is hot. BUT, he also GUARANTEED 75 million dollars to their football coach. that is uber risky. they aren't used to winning so that hire will probably be OK for a few years but if he flops or is mediocre he probably will be fired. he's got balls since the aggy alumni are as desperate as any I've ever seen and there are a lot of them (double the size of LSU) and they are ponying up right now.

not necessarily. right before they joined the SEC, A&M's athletic department was operating in the red. joining the SEC got them energized and they are collecting a lot of money for their stadium rebuild. they choose to include these alumni donations as department revenues for some reason (LSU does not include TAF donations as their revenues nor does any other school that i'm aware of). when those stadium donations are stripped away, LSU's athletic department makes more money than A&M's. I recently saw that and can't remember where I read it. sorry.

if Fisher works out, they will jack up ticket prices and Woodward will be a hero. but if Fisher pulls what he has the last few years at FSU the aggies will turn on him in a heartbeat.

absolutely incorrect. the university itself is extremely well endowed due to them and Tejas getting all of the oil money in the state. it's crazy how much the state gives those colleges and basically neglects many other things for their residents.

but the athletic department is different. by no stretch of the imagination does their athletic department have unlimited money resources; LSU's department actually makes more. BUT, just like LSU, their coaches contracts are basically paid for by their booster club so both have all the resources that the alumni will fork up. the aggie grads have just forked over 10 million lump sum to Sumlin and have agreed to underwrite 75 million to guarantee Fishers contract. and that is on top of hundreds of millions over a number of years to pay for their stadium rebuild. they are desperate for a title contending football team and are putting up the resources to get one. if it doesn't work out, that money will diminish drastically just like it would anywhere else.

So I guess Woodward also had an unlimited ck account when he was AD at Washington too? And that's the only reason he was able to lure Chris Peterson away from Boise St.? He doesn't deserve credit for that big hire either, right? Ridiculous.

It takes more then just a blank check to get a proven coaching commodity. I don't care how much money or resources Woodward has had in the past. One thing is clear. When he wants someone, he gets them. Period. Mark Emmert taught him well.

People have short memories... I can remember our fan base bitching incessantly about Jimbo’s offense at LSU.
