The absolute worst announcer I have ever heard. He is unbearable and beyond crappy. Give me some John Ferguson and I will be happy.

I don't really have an opinion on the whole Hawthorne thing, but I do know this: Anybody that uses the word "gravitas" is almost always full of shite.

Remember when people said the same things about Ferguson?

Yes, I am old enough to remember that. But Hawthorne really is unbearable.

He's not unbearable...c'mon now. He's just what we settled for and we could have done better. Hutltberg, in all honesty, if he geared his game more toward the play by play and less of the commentating, would be much better at it.

If any of us performed at the same level on our jobs as he does on his, we would have been fired years ago. I refuse to listen anything he calls.

My favorite Hawthorne line was when he said that Jack Hunt scored the winning touchdown in the Bluegrass Miracle.

If your just listening to the game on the radio he is bad. If your actually watching the game as he calls it, you understand how bad he really is.
I use to bring a radio to the games to see what some of the calls were, other game scores etc. Now I just leave it at home. The poor ole dude is way in over his head.

You're sitting there trying to get this mental image of whats going on, and you have Hawthorne with not only his whiney bullshite, but his "and the reciever caught it for a first down...no, now they're going to say he was down a few yards short, no wait, now they're saying incomplete...no wait, no they're saying fumble on the play...Doug who made that tackle...no wait, sorry Doug, now they're saying complete pass for a gain of 20". "Well Jim, I've got to say that it looked like it was a completed pass all the way, I never saw where they ruled incomplete or fumble on the play". "Doug, I'm telling you I saw one of the refs run in from the sideline and signal incomplete and the other signaled fumble" "Jim, I believe one ref was running in to signal first down and the other was signaling for the stoppage of the clock while they reset the chains" "Doug, I'm going to have to disagree with you but moving on now..."

Love the guy to death and I hope he stays "the voice of the tigers" for a long time. Calls em as he sees em and speaks his mind. What are your guys thoughts?

Are you serious? He's absolutely awful. He's good when things are going well for the Tigers, but let them falter a bit and you'd swear the world was coming to an end.

Agree 100%. I decided to stay home for the Troy game this year and listen to it on the radio and I remembered real quick why I refuse to listen to him on the radio.
I guess I can forgive the minor mistakes and such as I would anyone, but his constant complaining and bitching along with arguing with Doug is too annoying to put up with.

It seems he always has to get in the last word.

It takes no imagination and very little talent to be critical--Jim is the voice of the Tigers and deserves a certain amount of respect. Leave him alone.
