if you ever watch a game on tv and listen to hawthorne on the radio you realize he makes way more mistakes that you might not notice if you are just listening on the radio.
he really cant go two batters without messing something up.
anyone who defends him is either related to him or doesn't know any better.
I wish lsu could get an announcer that doesn't bad mouth the players. Just low class.

I use to enjoy listening to his broadcasts. But just last week, my brother and I were talking about how big of a jerk he has become. I think most people do like him not based on his ability to call games, but the sense of nostalgia his voice brings.

I listen to some of the games Hawthorne does; seems like in the last five years he's become increasingly fed up with baseball. If he doesn't care to do the games, I'm sure the powers that be can find someone who wants the job.

JH has always had this 'pissed off' sound when LSU is messing up. I recall talking about this with other students in class way back in '88.
What he is doing now is just flat out missing or misrepresenting the action. that is a big no-no for a radio guy.

Bottom line it is time for him to retire. LSU deserves someone much better than Hawthorne. A great college sports program deserves a great radio announcer. Hawthorne is average on his best days. His worst days, just awful.
I was at my hunting camp when LSU played Mississippi State this year so we had to listen to the game. I kid you not, here is the 4th down call.
"Miss State breaks the huddle. They line up."
Long silence
"They didn't get it. They didn't get it."
WTF? I have idea what the play was or what happened other than they didn't get the touchdown.

thank you, Mrs Hawthorne.
seriously, you've got to be a relative.
I actually kinda like his "tone" when LSU is messing up. It is endearing and entertaining if he keeps it in check. And, like I said, he's *always* been that way. Always.
That is a different conversation, however, from him just flat out screwing up. Which he does more and more.

some of you frickers never cease to amaze me. after such a great game that the Tigers won, you still manage to find something to bitch about. The announcers? fricking really?!
Im pretty sure your heads would have exploded if you had to listen to the broadcast that i did last night. I live in Hattiesburg and had to listen to usm's announcers. and wouldnt you know it, THEY TOO get excited about a long fly ball that doesnt quite get out of the park, as does anyone who loves baseball. and guess what else.... i JUST found out that Delatte had the game winning RBI because the announcers I listened to announced that it was Dishon. they didnt even get the players' names right. So obviously they should be tard and feathered and ridiculed by people sitting at a computer who wouldnt know the first thing about announcing a sporting event.
frick the haters, GEAUX HAWTHORNE!
"JACK HUNT, JACK HUNT!"

Yeah I'm sure the guy who has had more to do with LSU baseball than anyone on this site didn't give a shite about the outcome, he just wanted to go home
we go to the games, he annouces them, we are equal in what we have to do with LSU baseball. Plus I'm pretty sure certain players and former players post here, so they have more to do with LSU baseball than him.

REALLY!?!?!?!?! I never noticed. Well... There is the 834,722,109 post about JJ/JL. IDK man. I used to stay on this site a good bit but now I only come on here to get updates or stats, and almost everytime I leave pissed off because of the whinning and complaining about LSU sports. FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FANS!

Jim Hawthorne is the Director of the Broadcast team for LSU sports. He has done this for 27 years. I do go to most games, but I have enough humility to say he has more to do with Tiger sports than I do.

Fine, have it your way, he has more to do with LSU sports, so did Smoke Laval when he was head coach, but LSU had enough sense fire someone not performing up to the acceptable level

absolutely. Like i said, he needs to keep it in check. he's doing that less and less with each passing year.
Posted on 4/8/10 at 12:16 pm to josh336
been saying this for years, looks like some people are finally beginning to come around on this
Posted on 4/8/10 at 12:18 pm to josh336
Dude my point in saying that was to show how rediculous it is to argue that the guy doesn't give a shite about the outcome of the game and that he just wants to go home.
