There are some notable ones like Day Lanning and Smart, but i don’t think it’s “most”.
#1, #5, #6, #8, #9, #10, #12, #13, #15 all have coaches that where assistants before being hired
#2, #7 #14 all hired coaches from now P4 schools
Elko, DeBoer, Cristobal are the only 3 in the top 15 right now that came from another P4 school.
9 of 15
if you want to expand it to the top 20 its even more.

Not sure why you responded to me since your point wasn't really related to my post much. I DID say that performance should be part of the salary and I don't mean "making a bowl game bonus" either. I mean if you promise SEC championships and do NOT deliver as Kelly said he would, you should be docked in pay for that. That is why products have warranties
IF a coach really believes he will deliver, it won't affect his taking the job. IF a coach is just bullshitting, then he will back away, and you don't want that coach to begin with. These "eternity" contracts with guaranteed money only affected by moral clauses that would be tough to enforce are utterly ridiculous. Oh, and BTW, coaches don't mind breaking contracts and even the ones with buyout clauses from their end sometimes aren't even enforced because the universities think it will make them look bad.

Sure, but you are complaining about the entire market for coaches… You have to make competitive offers within the market, based on the market.

Oooooorrrrr you change the market. Read the article by Peter Burns on the homepage of this site. THAT is what I'm talking about. And you can still get the "I really care more about the money than anything else" which might have been why Kelly moved from ND to LSU. You get them because IF they back up their words with results, they win the lottery. And it isn't like they are going on food stamps if they don't make the playoffs. Make a lot of the pay "performance based."
