JD and Nabers.

They did great this last game, but after rewatching, JD really eye balls Nabers almost his entire route(any experienced safety will see this). My concern is the better teams will capitalize on this and quickly snuff out our pass game. JD did great but will it be enough for the more experienced opponents? His play style is still predictable and still need to take some risks.. Imho. Looking for some insight.

Does it really matter if it’s a mismatch & Nabers is already 3 yds past the DB?

Well… when your receiver can do the things Nabers was doing Saturday, you’re gonna tend to look his way a lot more than others

Mississippi St. wanted to take away the short passing game and left the deep ball open so JD took advantage.
If teams play deep then JD will use the short to intermediate game again.

The way JD was dropping the ball in, they could’ve told him before the snap he was throwing to Malik, and they still couldn’t have stopped him.

I'm just glad he FINALLY threw deep balls against someone in the FBS. Now he needs to do like you're implying and look off safeties to open up the deep shot.
So going back to the FSU game, was he simply eyeing his high percentage throw and unable to spot his other receivers until it was too late? If this is the case then his problem isn't his confidence in his arm...it's his ability to read a coverage and see the field. Nabers isn't going to be wide open every play against a better secondary.

Not really. I thought he did a pretty good job of looking around and got multiple guys involved early.

This is exactly what i am trying to get to. With his historical 88.2 Comp PCT he is doing great! But we can see the flaws. Great input. Thanks!

You clearly did not watch the game. He actively went through his progressions the entire game. You don't go 30/34 by accident. Brian Thomas, Diggs, and Hilton are all examples of him going through his progressions and then finding these guys open to move the chains.
The ball going to Nabers when it did was because the coverage dictated it. They went 1-on-1 with Nabers and Daniels threw him the ball, thats always the correct play. Just like when Burrow would throw to Chase anytime he was given 1-on-1 coverage. Jesus.

If it’s cover zero there is no deep safety and everyone is playing man. There is no need to look any of them off and you can stare down your receiver. That’s when Daniels was taking his shots.
The only one that wasn’t was the deep ball that was underthrown and Daniels looks left first then pump fakes then goes to Malik. I’m not sure if that was the plan from the start or if he was reading left then came to Malik on his backside read.

JD has a bigger issue of not trusting what his eyes see. Even in this game he held the ball too long and was throwing late on some routes. If he ever fixes this flaw defenses will be shredded.
