I think we have found a functional infield with Braun, Dardar, Pearson and Milam.

There’s no way to say that is a functional infield. Braun doesn’t have the reps, Dardar has proven to be serviceable when healthy (which he is not), Pearson truly doesn’t have a position, and Milam is the only player that does. Now, let’s shift them all over the place like we do almost every batter. LOL

Remember when we played 0-30 in postseason Braswell for his defense? And cheered him every AB in Omaha. I do.

When Jay feels like Evans is Anderson, Schmidt is Eyanson, and Rizy is Shores, he might go with defense first. But he hasn’t found the right mix of guys with this group, and it is probable he won’t with this roster this year, given what we’ve seen.

I’m not disagreeing with you, just pointing out how many things are relative to attempting to get back where they were.

You will have some years like this. Portal is not an exact science just like HS recruiting. A lot of portal talent is trying to take a step up in competition and you have to see if that translates successfully. Some times it will and sometimes it won’t. He didn’t totally miss. We got a weekend rotational guy a couple bullpen arms and Dardar has been coming on lately to make 2B more bearable. As of now, Carraway, Simpson and Yorke have been duds for most part. However if you looked at Carraway stats he was a streaky hitter and had a great post season run last year. Jay probably thought he saw something he could tweak to make him more consistent just hasn’t worked. We knew he wasn’t great defensively coming in. You can’t judge when a kid gets paid to transfer here and gets a little more money and the LSU on his chest and thinks he made it and doesn’t have to work as hard as he needs to so he can contribute. That is a crap shoot. Who translates to this level and conference, plus who will remain hungry and put in the work vs who will be just happy to be here.

The issue is you missed on position players and didn’t add a few quality arms in the portal.

Compare 23 and 25

Skenes, Hurd, Tommy White, ack, cooper
Not to mention studs who were hurt Taylor, kid from grant edwards
25
Eyanson, Dickinson, Stanfield, Luis , Cowan

And I am counting on him that he will.

A true source of inspiration for him. I hear he printed this and taped it to his bathroom mirror.

I agree. I could rephrase and say, Curiel is really the only one I would want up there in a tough spot. I have never seen an offense that gets shuts down so easily....except last year's football team.
