Rumors she was threatening a lawsuit against LSU if they held out her son without proof of wrongdoing.

This is the bargaining phase of grief when the Rantards start making excuses for things that don't go the way their conspiracies predicted. Its a way of rationalizing awful beliefs and trying to understand why things went the way they did.
