He was 6 for 13 vs West Virginia
Hardly an automatic out

He hit like .130 for a six week stretch to close the season. He turned it around in the Supers and is working himself back up.

It’s not as though the slump wasn’t real.

Imagine complaining about a slump from a player on the #1 ranked team in baseball heading to regionals who is batting well over 300. Over 20 HRs and over 70 RBI.

Slumps happen. It’s baseball. He’d be having the greatest season in the last 10 yrs if it weren’t for his slump.

mean. If you want to bury your head in your arse and not acknowledge that he’s had a slump the tail end of the season to show everyone how hardcore of a fan you are, then sure go ahead. Some of us here are realists.

You’re so real you wanted to bench him for who fricking knows what.

Could be worse!
Could be 1 for 18 hitting a frigid 0.055
Or a 1 for 32 ice cold 0.031 since the 1st game of the South Carolina series in mid May!
I don’t need to mention the name we all know who it is and no one’s defense at any position or at any level is good enough to justify an auto out!

Absolutely this. Had a huge one down the stretch today with a ball that was bouncing foul over 1st base and he backed up to snag it, make the out. Played perfectly.

Jones was 6 for 18 heading into UCLA .333 avg ...Not really slump!

He was 8 for 33 in the postseason as I said coming off a 5 strikeout game.

He’s had the two home runs that have been key.

Even if that’s all he’s had, you’re kinda poo-pooing the 2 home runs a bit, no? And he had 3 hits tonight, right? Didn’t he have a single over short early in the game? People seem to have forgotten that. And he had a single in the 8th against UCLA yesterday to give us an insurance run.

So after the platinum sombrero in Game 1, dude has gone 2-4 with 4 RBI and a walk and then 3-5 with 2 RBI, the 1st of which was a 2-out bomb to tie it after we gave up the lead in the top half and absolutely zero momentum or juice of any kind, and then a 2-out single to walk it off.

In the last 2 games, my dude is 5 for 9 with 6 RBI, a .600 OBP, and 3 of his hits either tied the game or gave us the lead. I’m not sure he needs a slump buster right now, as there’s no slump there is to bust.

And there was no longer any need for the ridiculous criticism way before his last AB. If he’d have struck out and we’d have gone to extras, he still would have been 4 for 9 with a .500 OBP and 5 RBI in his last 2 games. So there is very much justification for criticizing your criticizing.

He’s swinging to get a base hit, not swinging for the scoreboard EVERY DAMN TIME. For the last month before the bracket he’s damn near been on a knee after every swing he takes. Runners on base gets runners across home plate. He reached out on 2 tonight that were both clutch. He just needed to calm down a bit. I like it
