He did show improvement last year but it is his make or break year. The hold out hurt him. I can only take Cable's word that Russell isn't doing enough film study. I remember reading that Daunte Culpepper didn't do a whole lot of film study but he was fortunate enough to have Randy Moss. Culpepper was with the Raiders in Russell's rookie year and probably didn't teach Russell anything about film. Maybe Garcia will show him the importance of film

Not sure you need to be "taught" about film. It's more about the committment to do it.

Its JR's jop to make those receivers better than what they are
I thought coaching had something to do with it and i thought you had to have the ability to catch. Also i thought the Qb needed more than a half a second to get rid of the ball. Say what you want Brady has plenty of time to throw the ball he is well protected and Brees' line doesn't compare to Brady's but it is better than what Oakland has. And as far as JR doing no wrong that's not what's being said what is being said is Oakland has a man running things and it is wrong for anyone to fault JR for their failures. If anything, there are alot of JR haters who hope he fails. Some never wanted him to be the Qb at LSU

didn't Rich Gannon win the NFL MVP and lead the Raiders to the Super Bowl not 7 years ago? Jamarcus can't use playing in Oakland as an excuse.

Terrible comparison

#1. Gannon was a seasoned vet in Oakland...not a young guy with a steep learning curve.
#2. Gannon had a legitimate offensive mind with Gruden. Oakland hasn't had anything close to that since Russell has been there.

3rd and long.... Defense shows blitz...JR is calling an audible at the line...hands off up the middle... gain of 2 yds... punt.

But he did have one heck of a cannon!

True, it's not like he completed 68% of his passes, had a 4:1 TD:INT ratio, and was pretty much the best QB in the nation his final year.

Russell's struggling with the same decision making problems he had at LSU

He was probably the best decision maker in college football in 2006, yet people say things like this, lol.

What a terrible terrible comparison. Rich Gannon had 2 hall of famers that rank in the top 5 of all time to throw to. That and Oakland was actually a decent team back then. Russell came to a team that hasnt wont more than 4 games a year for 5 consecutive years!

alrightt....sooo if you keep saying that jamarcus russell isnt trying thats why he has been working out the entire summer to shut up people like you who are hating on him last year he didnt do good probably because he has the worst wide reciever crew in the nfl....they probably had the most dropped passes in the nfl. How is that russell's fault that his reciever cant catch the ball....if anything the recievers are making russell look bad i think he is doing a pretty good job for the team that he is on...has no o-line no recievers hopefully louis murphy and bey hayward can step up this year...but if you put jamarcus russell on a cardinals team i can guarentee he would be a pro bowl quarterback...

The problem is not only catching, its mostly getting open on passing downs. They weren't skilled enough to beat coverages or get off jams. They started improving towards the end and thats when Russell had good games.
That and Kiffin's awful coaching of forcing him to throw the ball away if the main target wasnt open.

I didn't see it said, but Rich Gannon also had the other JR...Jerry Rice to throw to. Thats a little different to what Jamarcus is throwing to.
