If we keep their QB inside the Pocket I think our DB's will thrive. That guy killed us last year when he broke contain. Difference this year is No. 40. We sort of got a preview of things to come when Perkins spied Young last year. This year, Fla. St QB will be introduced to Mr. Perkins.
Mike Jones and Greg Penn were the starting LBs that game. Perkins didn't play a single snap on defense and Baskerville (who would be LSU's leading tackler) only played a few snaps. Perkins was the biggest individual game changer on defense since Mathieu.
If you go back and watch the game, FSU scored their first TD on a flea-flicker. The second was an outstanding catch by the WR who was well covered. In the second half though, Travis was really at his best when extending plays. Keep that in mind while going back and watching LSU play Ole Miss, Arkansas and Alabama. As soon as those QBs left the pocket for a second Perkins was a heat seeking missal. That wasn't present, AT ALL, vs. FSU.
On offense, the LSU OL was terrible. Campbell got destroyed on the very first snap. 13 games later and another year in the conditioning program suggest that won't happen again. Cam Wire started at RT. Cam Wire never started again at RT. Dellinger was the center...he wasn't anymore after that game. Emory Jones didn't play on offense.
FSU is good. They CAN beat LSU. But LSU will look nothing like they looked a year ago in that first game.
The thing I'm most looking forward to seeing is the offensive approach from the OC. Denbrock said recently that they were in a bit of "survival mode" with play calling last season because of so much "new" and inexperience. Well, Mike. That ain't the case this year and there is zero reason this shouldn't be the best LSU offense since 2019. It took exactly one drive in 2019 to see the offense was different in terms of tempo, formations, and overall approach. While certainly not to the extent of 2019, I'm hoping to see the same approach change this season.
There should be no "survival mode" Sunday. The pieces are in place. Go attack!

I think its going to come down to Daniels. If he still plays scared and timid when it comes to throwing the ball LSU is going to struggle. If he opens it up like he did at times last year, LSU rolls.
