Its obvious that the coaches are spoon feeding JJ

and this is directly affecting the offensive production. JJ short hopped the ball to an open LaFell on the first play of the game and missed a wide open CM in the endzone. Personally, I like the underneath routes and bubble screens -- giving JJ a chance to get in a rhythm, gain confidence and work mechanics, fundamentals, accuracy, etc. He is the youngest starting QB in the SEC w/ only 4 career starts. I don't want him slinging the ball all over the field w/ 40% completion and several ints. He and the coaches will get their and/or be forced into those situations soon enough. Hopefully JJ wont miss a beat -- but one thing is for sure, if he does -- say...throw 3 picks against UGA, the same people bitching about the offense now will still be bitching then.
Per LaFell after the game:
"We were nickel and diming them," LaFell said. "We just tried to keep the chains moving with short passes. We wanted to keep the offense flowing and convert third downs."
Per JJ after the game:
"We tried to prevent Vanderbilt's defense from stacking the box," Jefferson said. "Everything was open short. I'm still learning. I tried to stay in the pocket more."

Probably the proper thing to do with this very young QB.

Biglego...+1. I'm glad we r 2-0 and jj is spoonfed. I wonder if some fans would rather jj throw 3 ints and lsu win 49-7 vs vandy?? At least jj is learning the importance of ball protection...HE'S LEARNING! Let him mature, guys. Enjoy it. R shep will be challenging him by year end anyway...possibly our starter 2010

Also, some of his passes weren't the most accurate. I recall RJ reaching back sharply a couple times to grab a ball and LaFell pretty much scooping one off the turf on a bubble out to the right. Those little things make a huge difference in a good QB and a great QB. Not bashing JJ as I believe he'll be the later, but bringing him along slowly is definitley in his best interest and like I said before, he and the coaches will have to sling it around sooner than later. Let the kid LEARN the position, its not exactly the easiest thing to do, LEARN the QB position that is -- and win simultaneously, especially for a young QB in the SEC.

I believe he'll get there, but some people think he might be a little further along than he truly is.

I don't think anyone really pays attention to how far along he is or isn't. To the average LSU fan (the average American moron), he's not throwing pick sixes.
He's not throwing any picks, but the first play where he missed LaFell was a prime example of how far he still has to go.
Also, when Chris Mitchell and RJ Jackson are in the game every other play, it's a clear sign that we are, as Lafell said, nickel and diming. Their presence is a sure sign that this offense is not ready to take a chance and uncork itself and take off.

Of course he has a few mistakes and I can promise you that he will make more mistakes. The guy did a good job and is still learning. JJ, keep up the good work!!!!!

OR rushing and not stepping into a throw will do that most of the time. Don't get mad at me... i'm not bashing him and i'm happy with him as our qb right now. I'm all in for JJ.

Man did he ever not step into that throw.....feet were all but flat stuck on the ground. He does have the arm to get it their and the confidence that he can, but its no jRuss gun.

You are right Jerry, it was obvious to me as well and was the main reason for the "vanilla" offense...we have played with extreme discipline and this is EXACTLY what the plan was/is ...i like it

JJ is doing great. I LOVE winning too.

You do know that even Joe Montana and Tom Brady have missed wide open WR's before right?

I don't even know where to start w/ this comment so I'll just fire.
Did you even bother to read the entire thread? And should I even attempt to explain the difference in Montana and Brady missing a wide open WR versus JJ missing a wide open WR. F&*k it.....odds are you wouldn't understand the explanation anyway.
