There was a point where we made the NCAAs 13 out of 15 years, four Elite 8 appearances, and two Final Fours. You could argue we were a top 10-15 program in the nation during that time. Obviously, baseball elevated to the #1 program in the country, and remains top 5 now. However, having a top 10-20 basketball program is a lot more valuable than having a top 5 baseball program in basically every way.
Ok?
None of that has anything to do with the fact baseball has entrenched itself at lsu as the number 2 sport. Comparing the 2 right now is laughable.

I'm not comparing the two right now. I'm not sure what you think you're reading. Maybe slow down and stop being so triggered.

It happened more than once and Lsu baseball has played power teams with star players. College baseball will just never be the draw that great college basketball is. It's is what it is.

I don't get all this baseball vs basketball crap on this site.

Wait this is a joke right? It has to be....i get that maybe Im dealing with a younger fan here...and Im only 29, but baseball is not only 2nd place among LSU fans but is by a margin that isn't even close...even when basketball was doing well for those few years here and there the baseball team has been ahead of it. To think that any sport, let alone basketball has ever or will ever surpass baseball as the "second" most important or popular sport is just laughable. Please tell me this was a joke..

Finally someone who knows history besides just reading a wiki page.

Has ever? There has already been a time when basketball was bigger than baseball at LSU. In fact, it was the #1 sport at LSU for a little while there.
Will ever? Ever is a long time. Did anyone ever think LSU football would be the dumpster fire it was in the '90s? Did anyone envision LSU baseball becoming the giant it has become since Skip got here? Speaking in such absolutes is very shortsighted.

Im under the impression this was about simply fan interest at LSU and not a national brand/revenue type of conversation....Basketball will of course make more money and would be seen more at a national level in terms of pure numbers nationwide. But amongst LSU fans and people in Baton Rouge....the number of people who actually care about Baseball more when compared to basketball is staggering. As a whole baseball attendance is the highest of any program and has been for nearly 20 years, and considering the draw is a sold-out stadium that is almost half as many people able to attend in the old and new Alex box's, its even more damning for basketball....the PMAC draws like a few thousand a game and hasn't sold out a season in maybe the last decade, yet Alex box consistently does this....Baseball is second place in the hearts and minds of fans in this city and its not even close.

I mean since baseball was made into baseball here....sure before the 90s basketball had it, by deafualy....and since the 3 were what they are....baseball has been second.. This isn't a debate its just the facts.

There was a time when basketball was huge in Louisiana. However once they went to shite and the baseball team became a national power that interest has shifted. Thinking that's gonna change in a year or two is naive at best.

Let's just hope that in the near future this actually is a real discussion.
I love both sports and want both to compete at a high level

Again, no one is arguing this.

No one said it would. You and that other guy are arguing with yourselves.

No shite at this second it is second to football. However. When Lsu basketball is consistently good the PMAC was packed game after game. Just look at the crowd in those videos. College baseball even at Lsu is crappy minor league ball. It's a niche sport. Put a quality product on the court and round ball will out draw it once again.

What he is arguing is that that isn't gonna change anytime soon. Which is what this thread was about.

When lsu basketball leads the NCAA in attendance call me.

Who gives a shite about leading the NCAA in baseball attendance? That's like being the skinniest kid at fat camp. Sure it's nice but context matters. The pmac is larger than the box. If the pmac is full then basketball attendance > baseball but unlike the box the PMAC doesn't dwarf the other stadiums.

Being the skinniest kid at fat camp is a prize the basketball team wishes it could earn.

According to the NCAA, LSU basketball averaged 11,382 per game last season, good for 35th in the nation.
Obviously, baseball has more games, so they'll have a higher total attendance. But basketball outdrew baseball per game just last season. That right there shows its potential. And, as you mentioned, attendance isn't everything. In terms of exposure and dollars, having a better basketball program will be much more valuable to the athletic department and the university as a whole.
The problem with LSU basketball is that we haven't had any consistency. Great season in 2000, pretty mediocre until 2006, terrible seasons the next couple of years until the SEC title team in 2009, then mediocre to terrible again until the recent tournament team in 2015 and the Simmons year in 2016.
If we could make the NCAA Tournament 70% of the time and compete at the top of the conference nearly year in and year out, things would change. Hopefully Wade can get us there.
