Sorry guys, I’m not really an aficionado when it comes to talent translating to the NFL. I want the best for that guy, but I can’t tell if he could make it in the NFL.

Thoughts?

Borderline but his age will work against him

Definitely NFL caliber. Length of said career is unknown due to his geriatric age.

yes. He averages 44 yards per punt for his career, and has the touch to put it inside the 20 much more often than inside the endzone.

Not really.

A) he’s a lot older than his competition

B) all he really does is punt. A lot of NFL teams like for their punters to handle kickoffs as well.

C) there is only 32 spots

He could possibly find a spot on an NFL team but it’s a long shot in my opinion

If it’s not a definite “no,” why the hell is this guy even entertaining coming back?

Go make money dude.

There are a ton of punters as good as him a decade younger.

No. For the most part the place kickers handle kickoffs. Some teams do use the punter though based on more experience with tackling.

And he’s a Ray Guy finalist. Any punter that’s a Ray Guy finalist is NFL caliber.

In a normal year he definitely makes a preseason squad somewhere. Likely doesn’t make an opening day roster imo

I wouldn’t say “a ton.” He’s a pretty damned good punter.

As far as his age - I don’t think this matters as much as people seem to think. There are multiple punters in their mid-late 30’s playing in the NFL right now. ZVR could easily play through the end of his rookie contract. That’s all that really matters in terms of a team’s decision whether to pick him up.

The average punter in the league makes about $1.6 MM, but the minimum rookie salary this year is about $600k. I think someone will at least take a flyer on ZVR, either late round or UDFA.

I think his salary matters more than his age. To his advantage he is left footed and can hold. Someone may give him a preseason roster spot

You will see just how much we depend on him after he leaves. A less experienced kicker would have had the ball blocked in the ole miss game when ZVR had to fake that ole miss player to get the punt off.

With only 32 punters and over half arent being replaced in the next 3-5 years, its unlikely.

But it only takes one. Good thing for him he wont get drafted and can pick his situation.
