You're grasping for air like a fish out of water.
We all get y'all's motive about the QB position.

Drop back qbs vs dual threat qbs. Matt Flynn had a dual threat quality about him but was eventually molded into drop back. Same with Mauck. See how when you actually get into the sports talk that skin color is a meaningless detail?
Flynn ran it 8.3 times per game in 2007 and Jefferson ran it 9.3 times per game in 2009. Whatever Flynn was, Jefferson was the same that year, just slightly better.

What does this mean...

Etling can think for himself and process as the game goes along. Brandon seems like a good kid and all but he just can't cut it.
Time to roll with Etling and not look back. We've been needing a Matt Mauck/Matt Flynn/ Zach Mettenberger type of quarterback for a long time now.
I'm asking you - not LNCHBOX or RealityTiger.

Mauck was a nice balance between Mett who could sling it but couldn't move and Flynn who could run well but was mediocre in the actual passing game and decision making
I don't get the comparison. Do you remember Mauck when he had to fill in for Rohan in the SECCG and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn? He ran for his life that game. Then the V Tech to open the next season he looked pretty poor throwing the ball, but by the UF game he had improved considerably but was then lost for the season. He and Flynn ended up with pretty similar completion percentage although Flynn started only one season. I believe Mauck was a better runner until the foot injury. I just don't see all that much difference between them although I recall Flynn having a dinged up throwing shoulder the last part of 2007, yet managed to hang on in the NFL for quite a few years.

You're just as big a race baiter at this point as LSU Tigers hornets or whatever his name is. Outstanding work.

I doubt it's "open" now.
But, if our offense looks the same the rest of the season, it'll be open going into next year with whomever the new coach is.

I'm comparing their best years - 03 and 07. Mauck was a better passer in literally every quantifiable statistic, and in some cases it was a significant difference.
Flynn and Mauck may have been similar runners, but Flynn was asked to do it nearly 3 more times per game in 2007 than Mauck did in 2003.
I think Mauck is a decent balance of Mett and Flynn, at least at the collegiate level.

If you think Harrus is a better QB than Etling, you are a fool. You must have zero clue about watching both wb's and coming to this conclusion, plus Harris had ALL of last year to show what he could do.

Oh stop it. Let the man answer the question. If he's talking about drop back passers, he skipped over two that were just as proficient, considerably more in some cases.
On a football level, how does rolling with Etling fit the mold of a Mauk/Flynn/Mett type of QB that LSU has been needing for a long time now?

This is what happens when someone uses ONLY statistics to do evaluation.
Hell, not even Mauck would tell you he was a passer.
Oh. And Flynn played almost that entire year dinged.
I loved me some Mauck but he was the ultimate game manager. What made him good was the dude was brilliant.

I personally think the difference between Harris and Etling this year is ENTIRELY one of confidence.
Harris has an absolutely explosive arm. But, the dude has completely lost confidence in what he's doing back there.
And, I think that the reason is the same reason previous QBs have demonstrated a lack of confidence under those coaches.

You literally will not stop bringing it up. It's pathetic. You're bringing up racism in a sport that is at a minimum 70% black. Just shut up already. You're embarrassing yourself.

this was my entire point of this thread, that maybe somehow the new staff could instill some new confidence in Harris
but people lose their minds if you are critical of Etling right now

I saw the games too.

The offense was a little more dialed back that year, and Mauck was pretty mediocre in the bigger games, but he slung it around pretty good.

There isn't much else to evaluate for him though. I mean the Peach Bowl was excellent I guess.
