Obviously we don’t have an issue getting on base, but I can’t think of a reason why we make outrageous choices at the plate with RISP (like going down looking on center-cut dead red fastballs) unless the hitters are being told to only look for a certain pitch that the analytics say is most likely to be thrown in that spot

It may be time to return to “see ball, hit ball” and leave the numbers out of it

It wouldn't hurt this team to "see the ball, bunt the ball"

Yep, throw the analytics out the window and tell the guys to swing at pitches they like. They can't get any worse and maybe some of these young guys can get experience and enough hits to be ready for next year.

I think alot of our luck in hitting with risp has just completely shifted from last year. We used up alot of luck and are one of the more unlucky teams in that aspect. Maybe they are pressing, only reason i can see that they are this bad with risp. It isnt some kind of thing that teams just have happening to them for seasons long stretches

That was the dumbest phucking thing I have ever heard. “Used up a lot of luck last year” ???? Idk what diety you worship but you should ask for wisdom from it

Yes

Said it before, Jay is too addicted to analytics. It takes more than that in baseball.

Analytics are awesome, but are not the end all.

Please explain then how you teach hitting w RISP then. Ill listen. Other than teaching to hit lift the ball with a runner on 3rd and 1 out, there is nothing tangible to teach there any different than hitting with 2 outs and the bases empty

So you think the only way people score runs outside of hitting home runs in baseball is by luck? You can teach kids how to make consistent solid contact. You can teach them to drive the ball with their lower half instead of just trying to stay alive and foul off pitches. Because that’s all they do right now

Get out of here with the luck BS.
You can work in hitting behind the runner.
You can look for pitches in certain areas to “lift”
You can also not try to swing out of your shoes
You can stop trying to pull everything
And you can work on bunting. Safety squeeze, suicide squeeze.
Delayed steal, forced balk. There’s all kinds of 1st-3rd offense things.
But I think the main is the approach at the plate with runners in scoring position.
That can definitely be taught

Sometimes you need to see the ball hit the ball... don't over think it.

Or don’t try and do to much with the pitch. Hit it where’s it’s pitched, hit it to the backside.
You don’t have to hit everything over the fence or off the wall

It feels like Jay is overcoaching every aspect of the team right now (more so than he usually does). I don't know many people who would have pulled Holman last night when he did. Holman was great through 5 innings. Give him a chance to get out of the inning.

He needs to set a lineup and stick with it for more than a game. Shuffling the lineup like he does helps no one. Last year we had the dudes to mange that. This year we don't. Batting someone 3rd one game then 5th and then moving them to leadoff is making the batter's job harder. You see different pitches based on where you are batting. It would be nice for the batters to have a chance to settle into a spot.

He played 14 non-pitchers Friday night. Of the 5 subs that played Friday night, they went a combined 1 for 7 with 5Ks. If you are going to start someone, give them a chance to produce, or don't start them.

I don’t think that Jay or anyone in the staff for that matter is telling anyone to “only swing at a certain pitch” with two strikes. That’s on the players if they go down looking with RISP. You can see it on Jays face everytime, not much else he can do there.

What blows my mind is most of the time they took the first strike that looked pretty good and put themselves down in the count. Whether that’s a called take or not I don’t know.
