Most fans know that the students are going to be rowdy and not choir boys like everyone here seems to want. There are vulgar chants at every college stadium in the country.
Great, let's be like every other douche bag student section in the country.

You know our student section has been rowdy and used vulgar language for a LONG time, right?

There was nothing better than seeing CBS come back to Tiger Stadium after a commercial break during a big game to the entire stadium waving their arms up and down. Not to mention it was something the players loved. I guess the student section doesn't really give a shite what the actual players think?

This isn't even a long standing tradition. You know what the players love? Loud fans. They enjoyed neck, obviously, but they will enjoy whatever we do next too.

I've changed my mind on this.

I used to berate the student section for ruining the songs with "suck that Tiger dick, bich," "assholes, assholes," and "I wanna know if you'll be my bitch," but at some point, you just have to be yourselves and own what you are.

Why are we pretending to be classy, family-oriented and sportsmanlike when we clearly are not? If we were, these chants would never have surfaced in the first place.

I say, don't live a lie. Let Tiger Stadium be what the people make it. If we are trash, which, apparently we are, then we can be the kings and queens of trash.

If we believe we are not trash... then the situation will right itself.

Apparently, those in the "classy" camp are either in the minority, or not influential enough to affect change. It's apparent the student section would rather be bad than good.

So let them be bad. Let them be themselves and show the world who and what they are, as loud as they want. It's their right to determine their identity as a people.

And I'm not being sarcastic. I'm being serious.

Don't get mad when Tiger Band is reduced to playing only Lady Gaga then.

I won't. I'm letting go of my need to control the students and the band, because in reality, I can't.

The student section and the band will have to find a way to coexist and synergize on their own. The solution needs to come from within those two entities. An external solution will not work, because the students refuse to be led from outside their ranks.

Want proof? The "suck that Tiger dick, bitch," chant was probably started by a handful of cool kids and it spread like wildfire. It came from within and it won the section's approval.

Every attempt to squash it from the outside has failed and will continue to fail. Because the students give more credence to their own voice over the university's will.

The solution has to come from inside the student body. If they don't want to change, then they don't have to. If they're okay with being perceived as trashy, then let them be trashy. It's all about how the students themselves want their image to be projected. Let them decide and live with it.

Maybe they will like the negative attention. Or... maybe they will like being the Lady Gaga section. If there's enough opposition to it from with thier ranks, then it will change. If not, then it won't.

Those outside of the section truly have no say. No one is listening, no matter how loud you shout.

Sure but STTDB is a lot different than yelling "assholes, assholes".

Neck would be 6 years old this year. It would be a tradition. Not every tradition started in 1897.

They yelled more vulgar stuff than "assholes" and you know that as well as the rest of us.

If it were not for juvenile STTDB lyrics it's doubtful this subject would continue to come up on this board.

So tell me what is was SPECIFICALLY because I was a student in the early 90's, been going to games since the mid-80's and have had season tickets for over 20 years and have never heard ANYTHING like STTDB.

I agree; as a kid, I attended practically every game at Tiger Stadium in the 70's, and was in Tiger Band in the late 70's; I *never* heard the kind of vulgarity then that now goes on at Tiger Stadium. The only thing I ever heard was "Go to hell Ole Miss" -- I got permission from my dad to join in chanting that. If anyone would say then the offensive words we regularly hear now, the adults around would get after the perpetrator.

Yes.

If so how do we get it to be played again?

Agree that LSU can eject any fan who yells profanity during games.

I'm still mad that Tiger Rag got banned, and that was years ago. I could really care less about Neck, atlhough now that our band has stopped playing it, other SEC schools have picked it up.

maybe the admin will spread out the student section all around the stadium so that the rest of the fans can join in?
maybe the top row of both upperdecks would be filled w/ the "neck" fans so that it might be cascaded down to the field.

i'm thinkin' most families miss out on this sophomoric behavior and would love the students to teach them how to have a wholesome life.
most of the other lsu fans would luv to join in w/ the verbage.

how silly of some ol'fogies to stop progress. they should join in w/ the young. i know lots of old people who have gone thru life just sooo excited to be able to use x-rated language.

i do hope those old people split the student section into maybe 100 different upperdeck sections. that would kill the experience of youth. it is better that old people and families learn how to live from kids than for kids to actually grow up.

people know when they are doing wrong. i don't suffer fools. just me.

STTDB was a protest by the student body. STTDB never would have happened if Oh-wee-oh hadn't been banned. A bunch of students thought they were being rebels by coming up with that chant and tacking it on to one of the most popular songs. Drunk college students like to cuss, chant, and be rebellious so it caught on. STTDB was a stupid, juvenile overreaction to an idiotic overreaction by the University.

Does this mean we've come full circle, and the band will now be allowed to play Tiger Rag again, as they had been doing for 60+ years?

Sure they can...oh wait, they can't now, because the band took away their opportunities by banning the song once and for all.

Nope. The band had nothing to do with it.

The LSU administration pulled the plug on Neck after multiple warnings.
