Miles is of the Bo Schembeckler mold/teachings so take that with a grain of salt.

50/50 is 55/45 run. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, we won 13 games, but with talent behind center, will he somewhat abandon his run first philosophy to take advantage of his QB?

Remember that we still have hilliard, fore, ware, blue, and magee back there. We arent going to abandon a run first philosophy but we will be back to the 55 run 45 pass like 06 and 07

As long as it is the Running Backs doing 99% of the running, I am OK with it.

I don't think it will ever be 50-50...

If mett is halfway as good as advertised then he will throw more. The fact still remains, with wing giving us such good field positioning and having a passing game to open up our running game (see first half of the season) then we will still run more. 60-40 is as close as we will get to "balance" and that's all that is required.

In the post game interview on radio with Gordy they ended by talking about the overall program status and next year. Miles sounded almost excited and slipped out "it will be nice to be able to throw it around some"

This team could very well be much better than last year. If we throw effectively next year with Mettenberger, let the fireworks begin. O-line, special teams and defense will be just as good, in my opinion. We beat USC in the Orange Bowl for all the marbles and redeem ourselves.

There is nothing wrong with Miles' offensive philosophy, it was working great with a QB who poses as a passing threat. Miles fricked up by giving the keys to JJ and giving him more responsibility in the offense. JJ was not the type of QB to plan your offense around - Miles thought he was. Hence, the frick up.

If we keep Miles' offensive philosophy with Mettenberger and let the RBs get the rushing yards and not the QB - I think we'll be fine.

it's this simple. without a running qb, miles will run a pro-style offense.

miles loves to run. we all know this. you can't run in the pro-style offense without the play-action pass, which doesnt work unless you pass the ball at least 45% of plays.

with pro-style qb's, we'll have a passing game, and miles will not have changed his philosophy.

if we look at the coaches history we will see that he has a history throwing the ball when he has has a quarterback that he trusts. unfortantly the last few years he has not had that as we all know. i think next year we are going to see a rebirth in the passing game, then we can bitch about not running the ball enough.

Flynn and JR passed the ball quite a bit.

But that doesn't fit into the mold of what people believe Les to be!

Les ran the ball a lot this season for obvious reasons. Flynn averaged just over 200 yards per game in 2007

I think the secret reason that Saban won on Monday was his separation from his offensive unit. During the telecast, the announcers talked about how Saban was personally focused only on the Defensive prep, and left the entire offensive game plan up to the OC.

Had Les done that, I think we would have won.

Les doesn't have to change his offensive philosophy as much as he has to learn to let go. If anything it can be said he has trust issues, with players and coaches, and those issues cause the main problems with our team year after year.

I don't think that is going to be a problem with the 4-deep we are blessed with right now. Miles loves him some running backs.

I am assuming he is going out having to re-recruit a lot of our WR's. I say we come out slinging it next year and go slightly conservative in some of the big ones. I predict he'll throw the hell out of it against Bama next year if we have a decent passing game.

oh i agree. just figured that we the tiger nation would find another reason to complain and bash the coaches because we know what is best for the football team.

Miles will turn Mett into a mediocre QB.
