He explained why they were suspended, but not his comment about weed.
Why should players that' have grown up in a generation where many states are legalizing the sale of marijuana not have a cavalier attitude about its use?
Heck, our doctors prescribe opioids like they are candy, but that legal right?

bullshite. You think it's limited to athletes?
I wish the players would put the team goals above their impulses but they don't. I also assume that the ones suspended have repeatedly violated the University policy and knew the consequences.

BTW, it's no bigger deal than alcohol yet check out the number of drunk fools on campus any game day. Oh yeah, we see it in the stadiums now too.

Jesus, the number of people upvoting this is frightening - news flash; civilized people outlawed physical punishment a long, long time ago...
Should we bring back the whipping post and flog them in front of the team?
Or maybe just execute them, like we're in Thailand or the Phillipines?

It isn’t and it shouldn’t.

That’s why players leave and go to Bama where the rules on weed are not as strict.

Regardless of what the law is or norms are, it's against team rules. They should be smart enough to just cool it while the season is on.

And don't spout a bunch of horse shite about the therapeutic value of weed - like these dudes aren't just stoning out to video games and hip hop or just plain partying.

Or what? They're getting high to more intently focus on game film, or PT? Please...

I am not saying whether it should or shouldn't.

The FACTS are:

1) it's still illegal in Louisiana
2) it's still a federal crime
3) it's against team rules

Until those aren't true, they run the risk of suspension.

Did you forget the suspensions during the 2011 season?

Missing the cupcakes is nothing to worry about.

These rules are stupid and they know it. They are all still going to try to get away with it. There's another fact for you.
Why not be on the side of trying to get these rules changes, rather than shite on kids?

There could be some actual internal discipline issues and O is trying to keep the team under control.

I agree, but for the time being it is still illegal in most states. The one take away from this is that if you're on the team, you are subject the team rules.

Regardless of whether you think weed is okay or not...

If you know it’s not allowed for your job and will cost you a suspension and you do it anyway...

You have an addiction problem.

I’ve always hated the idea of suspending guys for minor offenses. Something like domestic violence, absolutely suspend him.

But for something like weed or maybe they were late to a meeting or class, etc, handle it internally.

I think it was Bobby Knight that said when you start suspending players for games you’re hurting the team more than you’re hurting or proving a point to that one particular player. Like someone else said, run them till they puke, but suspensions (especially when you let them play in big games like Texas, which is a move I’m 100% behind) serve little to no purpose.

Actually weed has some negative effects on brain development when young.Seems to be pretty safe once you are older.

FIFY. And does anyone think that’s not used against us in recruiting?

I'm not the one correlating a genre of music to race, dumbfrick; you are.

Guessing you have no idea that all kinds of folks listen to all kinds of music, regardless of their skin pigment.

If you only see the world in terms of 'black and white', that says more about you and the callow perspective which apparently feeds your fevered imaginings of racism.

This is a football board, not a social engineering experiment, dumbass. Try sticking to concepts that are pertinent, like esprit de corps, individual sacrifice in favor of team success, and simply doing ones' duty and following team rules.

Check back when you've grown up a little or aren't stoned..
