When you have sanctions posing a 5 year probation, 2 year bowl ban, 21 scollie cut, and a carousel of mediocre coaches because of said sanctions, any program in the country would be bad and suffer in recruiting. Just for the record, Alabama has a .748 winning % for the last 6 decades, LSU is not far behind at .685.

The only reason bama is good is because of sabans name...he gets the best recruits....you put saban at special ed university and without his prized recruits he won't win.... lol

It's Saban at a program that is giving him all the resources he needs.

Nick Saban could have this level of success at a number of schools: LSU and Alabama, obviously, but also programs like Florida, Miami, Florida State, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, USC, Notre Dame...

Nick Saban could be dominate at any program that can get recruits. If he'd stayed at LSU, he would have won a number of national championships.

Alabama is perfectly capable of sucking. This was demonstrated during that time before a certain coach started working there. LSU is perfectly capable of out recruiting them. This was demonstrated during that time when a certain coach was working at LSU.

Gee what could the common denominator be?

Texas, USCw, Ohio State and Alabama are the four blue blood programs with distinct recruiting advantages. Thats why these schools can win Natl titles with just good coaches. The rest of the tier B schools have to have a great coach, a decade best defense or a Heisman type of QB to win it all.

There are a few exceptions like whenever 2 of the 3 big Florida schools suck the other one can move into this arena. Oklahoma and Michigan can move into this arena with just a decent coach as well if Texas and Ohio State are stinking it up.

I would switch Oklahoma with Texas in this assessment and add Notre Dame to the blue bloods, but agree with most of what you're saying.

Bama with a great coach is a dynasty, but most teams that can get an elite coach and hold him will become a dynasty. LSU would've been a dynasty had Saban stayed, but it seems LSU will need to find the next elite coach and keep him in order for that to come true. I believe it can if the emphasis/investment is placed on the football program. Bama has almost always emphasized football success, and its why they are in that category and can get/keep an elite coach. Their location and history of skirting the rules helps, but top to bottom they emphasize success as a football power.

Texas A&M by leaving the B12 for the SEC and hiring Jimbo for $70M is an example of the investment it takes to enter that blue blood status (don't know if A&M will be able to, but at least they are trying).

Ask yourself, what would Saban have done if he stayed at LSU? Les Miles had 6 losses between 2005 and 2007. Saban was just becoming a name and recruiting lights out.

During that stretch, Saban most likely wins 06 and 07 and then on and on from there, similar to the start of his dynasty at Alabama.

It's Saban.

It’s coach Saban and his coaches. Alabama is fertile ground just like LSU is to college baseball. Alabama is all in when it comes to football. What other sports does Alabama have ? The NBA isn’t there. The NFL isn’t there. And the MLB doesn’t have a professional team in Alabama.

All the resources and support revolve around Alabama and Auburn football. College baseball and basketball are not important in the state of Alabama except 1997.

Bama and saban were a marriage. Saban proved he could win big prior to Alabama.

I do believe Saban could have won big at Michigan or Ohio state too.

I refuse to believe they are somehow inherently better than LSU. Louisiana has better talent and a better recruiting base.

Well I will say this, Bama is a lot more dedicated to a having a championship football program than LSU is. Hell we've had politicians in Louisiana despise LSU, our own Governor threatened to shut down LSU football and publicly stated LSU coaches make too much money.

. Yes, saban is the greatest of all time, but he will not last forever.

I have this idea that Saban has actually ruined the Alabama job for future coaches.

No one will match what he is doing and their fans have become so entitle that they won’t toletate anything but what they have now.

The next 2-3 coaches after Saban have no chance.

Winnning football isn’t baked into the bricks of the athletic complex. Of course it’s mostly Saban, with a passionate fan base behind him that enables the university to give him what he needs to execute his vision.
