Coming into the season, the secondary was one of our strong points. We did lose Williams, but one departure shouldn't leave us looking lost. IMO, I think we have the players to be very good, but it appears we are so out of position on too many plays. It has to be Aranda and his defensive schemes that is the problem. We are playing a couple of new players and it's normal to expect some growing pains, but not to the extent that it's now our biggest weakness. The OL was my biggest concern, but they have stepped up their play, while the defensive secondary has taken several steps back!

Dline talent, fix that and all the problems are manageable

We gave up 70 yards and 0 points in the second half. If you listened to the Announcers last night they said Aranda was still trying to figure out our identity as a defense. He made good halftime adjustments and our players woke up. If defense is still struggling the game before Florida I will be worried.

The secondary has been pretty stout outside of Vincent getting picked on in the slot. The dline pressure is the main concern imo

How the F are people ignoring the 4 starters we had our last night? Add to that the fact that we lost our field general to the draft.

He is running a lot of Zone lately. When we go man we are much better

Can anyone confirm that the blown coverage that left the TE wide open in the end zone was scheme?

Does Aranda have a play in his defensive playbook that allows the TE to run around with his own zip code?

Who was at fault with this play?

Can someone please answer that for me? Can anyone confirm?

I’ve asked several times why we’re playing so much zone. IMO Stingley & Fulton need to be in man. We played the entire Texas game in quarters or cover 3. When we went to man on the outside last night we we shut their passing game down.

I think this will lead to being able to get more pressure on the QB.

IMO Queen & Clark should be in the middle with Chaisson & Divinity on the outside. Phillips is just not playing at the same level as last year.

Any smart DC would make a game plan going right at Vincent all game. He’s s-o-f-T.

The Safety and DB had a miscommunication. It was supposed to be a LB on coverage with help from the safety

You can add focus and motivation to the list. LSU playing down for a half as usual. They need to learn to play zone coverages with the sec schedule starting Saturday.

I wouldn’t say soft just not playing to his strengths. He is one of the fastest guys in college and is giving guys in the slot a 7 yard cushion on mostly quick slants. Get him in their face and make the opposing qb beat him over the top. With his speed and delpit back there, they should be able to figure it out

Apparently from the analysts side, we can’t play zone to save our lives

The game before is Utah State. Jordan Love and the USU passing attack is no joke. They were 11-2 last season with a 7 point loss @Mich St and 9 point loss @Boise St. They had Wake Forrest beat until a late drive pulled it out for Wake. Love threw for 416 that game, but had some INTs too. He's going to test our pass D.

It’s unrealistic expectations by “so called” LSU fans that can’t be pleased and will ALWAYS find something to bitch about! Enjoy what will be a GREAT season!

That's what is confusing. We flourish with man to man, but we are in zone most of the game. It's clear our lbs and dbs are not fully grasping what their assignments are and that's concerning. There were some throws last night that the receiver was wide open by 10 yards and that's against a lower level team. IMO, I thought the Texas QB was a solid qb, but we made him look like a Heisman candidate. Of course, we do need to pick up the rush because we are allowing too much time for the qb to view the field. It's frustrating when you were counting on your dbs to be strong and now they've become a major area of concern.

When you MUST rush extra men to get to the QB, you leave yourself open.

That's why you don't want to be in a situation where you MUST.

But, bottom line. LSU doesn't have a single guy on the DL who scared opposing QBs.

Aranda is going to have to go exotic which, I'm sure he will. But, there is ALWAYS a price to pay for going exotic. The question is, how fast does the other team figure out how to extract that price

I trust aranda. Didn't understand why we didn't blitz ellinger more since we had success when we did, but Aranda is beyond proven. He will have us rolling soon.
