Every scrimmage I read today says interior OL is still deficient

I have my own reasons for some concern like the run blocking that has been really poor for the last few yrs. Could be scheme though and not talent.

However, right now they are experimenting with a lot of moving parts so expect the Spring product to be a little confusing to the public eye. These guys we have right now have a lot of chemistry to build including Nuss. The QB is also highly responsible for pass protection calls.

Do you remember the NCAA 14 Dynasty we were in years ago or am I thinking of a different poster?

Yea, I don't know what the answer is there, but I hope it's not still an issue this season. To answer the original question, I think he's above average as a coach, but he's not the best. Really good re recruiter, though.

Need to let the guy we hired from FSU coach the OL and let Davis recruit.

Yep. Alex Atkins is the much better coach. He is the run game coordinator and has been helping with scheme.

I keep wondering if Kelly didn't bring him in as a backup plan for Brad Davis.

Every year we get told a certain part of the team will be awesome and then find out they are average at best. I resorted to waiting until the end of the season to say if something is good bc I'm tired of getting burned with all the hype before the first game. We will see after 6 games or so what part of our team is good.

Sylvester Croom 2.0.

He's not what you want coaching OL if your goal is an SEC Championship and CFP deep run.

Sly C is football Nikki Fargas. He's getting the Minority exception, Minority patience and Minority preferential treatment right now.
..
He shouldn't have ever been retained by Burger King alias Butter Kreme aka British Knight was first hired.........

Good recruiter and the verdict is still out if he’s a good coach. This year will tell a lot about his ability to coach and mold a line.

Nope that's me. The one with the annoying Lonestar or longhorn dude? Those were so fun.

He’s been here since 2021. How is the verdict still out? I think he’s an average coach. Good recruiter but is LSU getting the most out of the offensive line every year?

They’ve had a mediocre-to-bad rushing offense every year except for Daniels’ Heisman year, and the running game was Daniels.

Their passing game has been prolific so I think Davis should get some credit for that. But we fail in too many short-yardage situations.

My take on Brad
Excellent recruiter
Not a great coach

If he doesn’t do a great job this year it will be his last!!

Atkins can help, he can coach virtually everything from TEs to the whole Offense. CBK got a good get in the guy.

The oline has underperformed since he’s been here, that answers your question

They certainly underperformed last year, but not in his first two years. Maybe you forgot that we had an OL with 2 true freshmen, a portal transfer, 1 returning guy with some starting experience in Dellinger, and 1 undersized career backup at Center. And there was only 1 SEC-level backup on the bench. By the end of that season, they were performing well, all things considered.

Year two probably went about as expected. We had multiple RBs average over 5 ypc. Yes, Daniels obviously had an impact, but the OL performed better with Turner at Center, in spite of his obvious deficiencies.

All that said, there’s no excuse for last year. Davis will be coaching for his job this season, especially considering that there’s a possible replacement already on staff.
