re: Is Beckwith that much better than Welter or am I just biased?

it didn't, it took 5 games for them to have full confidence in Beckwith making the adjustments on a full time basis...

Physically yes, and he should start. He needs a lot of reps and needs to play with a mean streak.

Beckwith was indeed light years better - he looked like and played like an average SEC MLB, which isn't bad as a sophomore.
Welter was in on two series and quickly lost contain, coverage, and went the wrong way once. On kickoff return, he actually stopped in front of LF in open field (note not blocking someone or even touching them - other than blocking LF), he whiffed on coverage, and got a holding call. It is seriously insane he could do that much damage in so little time.
On another note, Chavis seriously has to stop putting the MLB into man on the back, letting the offense motion the back out to clear out the middle, leaving us open for the QB draw. Those plays are on the Chief.

Beckwith doesn't look very good, but I say let him play. Louis hasn't done much better than Welter in my opinion.

These guys need to trust each other to make plays they are constantly all running to one side then leaves the other wide open for the cut back so offenses are purposely bringing motion to one side and then cut it back to a wide open field.

Beckwith is better, but he's going to struggle to be an avg SEC middle linebacker.
Minter 2011 started 11/14 games, played in all
61 TKL 21 solo
3.5 TFL
1.0 Sck
1 pass def
1 FF
1 TD
Minter 2012 started every game
130 tackles 55 solo
15.0 TFL
4.0 Sck
5 pass def
1 FF
1 INT
Beckwith has better skill than Minter, and will be a force next year. Check out a comparison from their first 7 games of 2011 and 2014
Minter 2011 4/7 games started
27 TKL 5 solo
1.5 TFL
1 FF
Beckwith 2014 1/7 games started
32 TKL 14 solo
2.0 TFL
1.0 Sck
2 pass def
1 INT
1 TD

His strength is supposed to be in stopping the run but he got trucked by the QB on one of Florida's TD's. If that was Welter there would have been 30 threads on it with gif's already.
Find the gif because he didn't get trucked. He fell down and lost leverage.

Actually, I felt like we did much better up the middle with Beckwith at MLB and Adams at Safety. I noticed early in the game the motion man took Beckwith out of the middle in coverage and left the middle open. The run was up the middle and Adams stuffed it about 4yds past the LOS. This play would have made 20+ last week.

Beckwith Wasnt perfect, but was a far better MLB than welter. He filled the hole, more physical, more aggressive. Did miss a few tackles, but who doesn't.

Datbayoubengal keep up the good fight with facts. These numbnuts make up stuff to support their positions.
Beckwith was a QB in high school. He will develop into a 250 lbs MLB monster. And he will QB the defense as well. The game will slow down for him shortly. And then it's on!
And where are those fools claiming LF was a bust?

I saw 45 in the 4th quarter. Give him a chance we need a playmaker on D, badly.

I'll take 1 Beckwith over 10 Welter's any day.... With playing time and experience Beckwith will compete and only get better... Can't say that about Welter... I'm sure the dude has heart but after almost 2 seasons I see no progression with him... In other words, he's not SEC caliber LB...

Correct. Beckwith played much, much better than Welter. He made mistakes that you would expect someone to make playing a new position.

Yeah, people were unfairly targeting Welter's play.

Just note, no touchdowns up the middle of 40+ yards. In fact, just for fun, outside of Debose's rush, the longest rush in the game was 10 yards. I'd say massive improvement. If you want to put the Debose rush on Beckwith, fine. You'd also have to acknowledge that if Beckwith couldn't make that play, there's no way Welter could have.

That play is a result of Chavis recruiting linebacker sized defensive ends.

I watched Beckwith the whole night...He definitely looked better than DJ...Not great, but average like everyone else said...He needs to start and play from now on. Simple as that

It's taken them 5 games to get comfortable that Beckwith is ready. They've known he was superior athletically since he stepped on campus.
