Saban should utilize the TE early and often if we play this game.
Agreed.
I think we leave our CBs on an island and focus on disrupting the middle of the field. This includes allowing TEs to make big plays

I really hope we get pressure on him early on. It’s a risk but if our corners can lockdown and play tough man to man defense and we can get some shots on Tua, it’ll rattle him and he may fold by not being able to execute like he usually can.
Bama is all about execution and you can’t let them execute and you have to get them out of their comfort zone.
Of course I don’t know near as much as Aranda and the other defensive coaches, but if I were DC, that’s how I’d approach the game early on.
A lot of people are saying play zone but I feel like if we play zone, then Tua will eat us up all night long. He can hit his receivers with just a little bit of space. He’s one of the most accurate QBs to ever play the game and I really don’t think zone will work. I’d rather go man and have 50/50 balls because our DBs are so athletic and good that they can make plays and adjust really well

Tempo getting to line of scrimmage to prevent substitutions. You can still run down the play clock.

If they are pushed into a run game, it will truly slow things down. IMO LSU does not want to be in a shootout with BAMA. The DB's are great but running all night with receivers who know where they want to be will wear the DB's down. The way to expose a team who is accustom to scoring at will is to keep the ball away from them and slow the game down to a defensive battle.

I agree, I think this is the best way for LSU to defend them.
Trust the NFL DBs we have.

They are very good at finding the gaps in zones, plus the OL is very good which gives Tua the time to throw. Forcing them to keep it on the ground is probably a very good strategy

we just have to match their scores.
I’m sure Steve E. will all of a sudden learn how to call plays in the red zone.

This is just my take. The Ole Miss WRs are a different type of WR than Bama's. What I mean by this is that the Ole Miss WRs are big, physical, strong guys that usually outmuscle the DBs across from them (but they couldn't do that with LSU's DBs because they are also big/strong). Bama WRs beat you with their SPEED and QUICKNESS. Our DBs do a great job with the bigger WR because of their size and how they play press coverage off the line. I am reserve about this type of play with the Alabama WRs simply because they are so damn fast and can seemingly blow by almost any DB in a split second...that's how they beat everybody. The key to beating them will be getting consistent pressure on Tua while only rushing 3-4 guys and dropping back 7-8 with the safeties there to help if their WRs get a step on our DBs and get behind them. Our safeties need to set the tone early and often by laying the wood on any of these deep go routes. Same for our LBs, if a slot WR or TE is coming across the middle...knock them the hell out and make them think twice about it. On offense we abosultely HAVE to get a run game going to win TOP and sustain long drives to limit Tua's possessions with the ball. If we do this...we win! Anyways....GEAUX TIGERSSSS!!!!

Bama WRs beat you with their SPEED and QUICKNESS.

I can't stand the, "The only way we stop them is ....." attitude. It wreaks of defeatism and the "hope for a few breaks" Mentality.
If the players and coaches think the same way, and the breaks don't come, they will get destroyed.
The attitude should be more along the lines of "the only way Bama beats LSU is IF their receivers can beat our DBs and IF their offensive line can get push against our defensive front." Talking scheme is one thing, but LSU can't rely on one type of defensive scheme to win. If you let Bama run the ball on you they will, and you will lose. LSU's defense should have the attitude of WE WILL NOT GIVE AN INCH!!! NOT AGAINST THE RUN AND NOT AGAINST THE PASS!!!

Our offense is the KEY to this game. Must move the chains and shorten the game. The longer we keep it close, the more uptight Bama will become. They haven't faced any real pressure all year. We're by far the toughest team they've faced in the toughest atmosphere. I doubt we play man much against their receivers, you can't give them big plays. Make them drive the field and they'll be kicking field goals.

Tua has all day to throw is a big reason why his receivers have time to get open.

Tua should be a heisman candidate. If he beats LSU with a solid game, he will probably win it.
I understand that his numbers are huge (esp yards per catch) against crap defenses, save A&M but he is consistent in getting lots of yards.
This will be his biggest test though. LSU has to pressure him and the DBs have to make him go to 3rd progression. However, this will then require quick slants, screens etc which will challenge our D, exactly like we should do to there D.
Bama will want to control the ToP. Run as much as they can and then open the pass up. Much of what LSU will probably do. Both teams want to run and shorten the game for the opponent.

But the way to pressure their defense is with tempo.
I agree to an extent. We have to be smart when using tempo. I think Ensminger has done a good job of that for the most part this year. The best time to use tempo is after a plus play (5+ yards), especially after 1st down or on 3rd and short.

I think Bama will definitely want to run the ball. Especially with White out of the 1st qtr, the run game might be there for the taking. LSU is susceptible to a good running team anyway, with White in the game.
I believe the run D will be softer than usual without White and I think Bama will make hay while the sunshines in the 1st half.
This will open up the passing game on 1st and 2nd down with play action. This is why LSU must burn the clock in the 1st half.

I’m so ready for Delpit to come half way across the field for a pick out of nowhere.

Nice arguments.
What do you disagree with?

They've lived on the long plays all year. They will have to find another way to have success. I think they will find themselves in unfamiliar scenarios on offense
