Clemson in 1958, Tulane Stadium
Oklahoma in 2003, Superdome
Ohio State in 2007, Superdome
(1908 not included)
All Sugar Bowls and each coming against current playoff teams.

That's actually pretty cool information

I never understand why we don't recognize this championship.

Very slightly inaccurate. 2011 was not the Sugar Bowl. It was the national championship game (which was put together by the Sugar Bowl committee, but the Sugar Bowl was a week earlier).

Because we aren't gumps

It shouldn't break up the coincidence, but technically the MNC was already ours. The Bowls didn't factor into final AP/UPI rankings back then.
Now, losing to Clemson would have muddied up the retrospective championship assessments. As it is, FWAA has Iowa as their champions for 1958 (which is, frankly, bullshite as that Iowa team tied Air Force and lost to tOSU by 10 points, at home).

Triple threat quarterback Doc Fenton led the nation in points scored. The Tigers have been recognized as a co-national champion by the National Championship Foundation, and the NCAA recognizes LSU as national champion for that season along with Penn.[1] However, LSU does not officially recognize this season as a national championship season.[2]

It has to do with how unregulated college football was at that time. From reading accounts of the team, the players were paid and it was pretty much a semi-pro team who dominated everyone. Bama's championships from those years are similar. LSU just chooses not to recognize them because it doesnt look good once you scratch the surface.

And we also didn’t win that one. OP didn’t mention it either.

I think it would be kinda awkward to just randomly run another banner up the flagpole 100 years later.
Now, if we're already doing a few upgrades with a 2019 banner and signage, that might be a good time to set the record straight on 1908.

Not as awkward as this:

actually we've won more than 3 but those are the only ones we claim for some reason
Posted on 12/9/19 at 8:40 am to Tchefuncte Tiger
Not sure either why don’t we claim 1908?

I don’t see 2011 in that list

Another fun fact is that every college football national championship played in New Orleans since the 1999/00 FSU v Va Tech game has involved LSU. If we win the next game, that streak continues.
