and offenses in general in CFB.

Did you know that Oklahoma actually led FBS in plays-per-game last year, with 86.5?

I would've sworn that Oregon's Blur offense from the Spread Set would've lead in that category, but it was the Sooners.

They're actually more than a few snaps off the all-time record of 92.4 set by the 1970 Notre Dame offense.

I guess I just took for granted that Oregon's tempo yielded more snaps, & I had no clue that Oklahoma-even though they run an Spread Set offense with tons of Spread concepts-was running more plays than the Ducks.

Oklahoma LOVES getting off massive amounts of plays per game, with a lot of quick routes and quick runs, most of the game the Qb will just run the offense like a 2 minute version. Usually they'll run a play, and have another snapped in 15-20 seconds. This is why Oklahoma has to have a good Qb to win, that can regularly make plays and think on his feet, without one they flounder horribly a lot of times.

B/C Oregon's scoring drives were so much quicker.

That's true, Oregon racks up chunks of yardage and moves down the field faster, Oklahoma is more methodical with moving down the field.

Oklahoma has a better defense, too, getting off the field much quicker.

On a yard/play basis Oregon did better. 4.7 vs 5.1...

When Oregon had the game in hand, they slowed it down. They had 9 minute drives in the 4th quarter, milking every second off the clock. When you go up by 30 you don't have to hurry anymore and it shows no class to just run up the score.

I only signed up to this site because of this game. But I have been truly impressed by many of LSU's bloggers in being up on their knowledge of the game and my team! I was rather expecting the normal juvenile chat of, "we will crush you and show you what the SEC is made of", but rather, many guys on this whole blog actually know their football! To either side, I just don't see one side crushing the other. LSU might win, but it wont be in epic proportions. And same this with UO, I respect LSU's D too much! AU swept the SEC last year, but only won with a game winning field goal as time expired last year for a reason against us. Respect not the PAC and you will get burnt as we have been Kings of the PAC for 2 years now by a wide margin. This is not UW you are going to play! We have beat UW our arch rivals for 7 straight years by no less then 20 points in any single game. This will be a very close slugfest and I expect a UO-AU kind of game, very tight! LSU has owned most of the PAC in this last century, and I respect that! But this is no UW! If you beat the king of the PAC, I will respect LSU even more.... cant wait until this game! Either way, neither team can say they lost to a chump!

LSU fans are usually really knowledgable. About football. Since 00, I believe LSU has played Oregon State, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State before this year. All were good games(Cept for Arizona) as I expect this one to be.

I expect this to be a barn burner. Both teams are loaded but our fate depends on our QB!

I remember the 04 Oregon State game well. Pre-game/tailgating was as hot as I have been....ever. It was so hot that the oak trees were whistling for dogs.

Just before kickoff, the bottom fell out and delayed the game for what seemed like hours. It came a real turd floater.

The game was tough to watch. Very sloppy on both sides, but the Tigers prevailed on a schoolyard pass play from Russell to Bowe that put the game in OT, then OSU missed an extra point in OT.

This was St. Nick's last season LSU, which started sloppy and ended in the same manner -- a Hail Mary that was poorly defended.

Points-per-game is a better statistic.

More than theirs is a good barometer of success.

Even better measure of offensive potency would be points/ possession. I don't ever remember seeing this used, but it would tell you how effective an offense is regardless of if they are quick strike or methodical.

The scary part is that I've been anointed as being "well on my way to being the worst poster here."

Consider OU runs a pass heavy spread and UO runs a run-heavy spread, it's not that shocking. Once that 4th qtr hits and we've got a lead it turns into the hurry up and wait offense.
