In peak offseason boredom I watched highlights to all our ranked games last year

It’s pretty hilarous to see how every ranked game last year started virtually the same : penalties, zero push from the offensive line, 3 and out , Brian Kelly looking frustrated and lost. Defense for the most part would keep us in games but A&M and Vanderbilt were the two games where our lack of truly elite game changers up front on last year’s d line caught up to us as we got manhandled in the lines of scrimmages in both those games. Whit weeks’s abscense was also felt the most against mobile QBs in pavia and Reed.

A healthy weeks alone this year should be a massive help against running QBs. Our defensive line is younger but I think has more high end talent. The young pups in Geralds, brown and Anderson will add a much needed talent injection to the d line.

Offensive we should be a much better coached unit don’t think it’s a hot take to say we had the worst offensive coaching staff in the sec no one on that side of the ball earned their paycheck.Itll be refreshing going into Saturday knowing Kiffin and Weiss will have the offensive much more prepared than whatever Sloan tried to do

Dude checked out after his first season. He got 10 wins and thought he could coast.

Loser.

Winning that bama game in 23 absolutely made BK think he can coast to a natty without putting in the grind needed. How consistent he was in not having the team prepared for big time matchups and would simply throw players under the bus instead was pathetic. Getting blown out the following week to a mediocre A&M team after that bama win was the first red flag

I think looking back it’s pretty obvious his entire time here Kelly never had a team that was totally bought in.

And you can’t blame them with that with Kelly asleep at the wheel.

I’m expecting an entirely new swagger with this squad under Lane. That’s what he does - he builds culture

That’s what I’m most excited for under Kiffin: the return of lsu swagger and edge. It felt like that completely disappeared under Brian Kelly. There were flashes of it but it never felt like the Brian Kelly LSU played with the typical fire , bravado and confidence this program has prided itself on. His last game as head coach here when A&M chanted their fight song in the stadium solidified just how and lack of fire the program has become under his leadership

Wolford and Cregg will significantly UP COACH the Offensive Line. That will be a bigger difference than the Kiffin and Weis Jr. run Offense.

'22 Bama game being the highlight of his Coaching tenure is a tremendous blunder. Not fielding a competent defense in '23 is the biggest waste of generational Talent a Coach could have done. '23 was his shot at the Title. That offense was special still pains me that Daniels, Malik, BT, and Taylor didn't get to play in the Playoffs.

If the 23 offense simply had the 24 defense they would’ve easily made the playoffs and probably played for a natty. 24 defense wasn’t even anything special but they were much better coached. Kelly’s initial staff hires on the defensive side of the ball was abysmal

I completely agree.

The red flags were always there but like you said, a couple key things glittered over them just enough to keep Kelly above it until the roof caved in.

The ‘23 defense might be the worst one I ever saw. I remember so many times not even knowing who to be mad at because there were no LSU guys on the screen as the other team’s dude ran for a TD

So glad we won’t have to sit through any more loser offensive identity.

Remember when we would wait to see what the defense was doing before deciding which play to run?
