Yes--because jones handling of Simmons pissed off the other players like quarterman which led to Jones losing their respect/trust..
I think the handling of Blakeney did more damage to Quarterman and Paterson... probably even Sampson.

ETA: Simply recruiting another guard instead of a big man for a guard rich team was enough to stir the pot. Forcing him into the starting lineup his frosh year as he could have built a house with all of his bricks was just way too much.

Not as a singular event or season. Simmons was part of and exemplified deficiencies in Jones' coaching skill set.

CJJ is a good dude and I wish him well. It is no great shock that it didn't work out.

Going into the final weekend of regular season they were in position to win the title. Its not like there was a season long theme of underachievement in the media. The early season absence of Keith Hornsby and the Honsby's late season recurrence of teh injury did more to derail thepromise of the season.

It definitely put the spotlight on him, which was bright enough to show he was a bumbling moron of a coach who was in way way over his head.

simmons had a monster year if you discount shooting and the last 5 minutes of every game...he was, albeit, a very good passer and rebounder...but weve had much better

I only read the first page, but I don't think JJ failed because of Ben. JJ just isn't a good coach. His teams always underachieved relative to the talent level. None had a structure on offense or defense.

The error was giving Ben Simmons carte Blanche. The Showtime Crew following him off the court. On the court, not anchoring his arse on the post to play thru him that way instead of him floating around on the perimeter. If he grabbed a defensive rebound and pushed in transition that was fine. But he's not a pg and he didn't shoot well enuf to be a wing.

The error was not putting quarterman in his place and telling him he wasn't the alpha or if he wants to hang out in NBR transfer to southern

Quarterman was the cancer
