I guess the scoreboard doesnt matter in your world.
It's a mid-week game, so no, it doesn't matter.

Well he only made it 1 and 2/3. So why not just let him rest even more and let him pitch the third or fourth game?

What’s so dumb about starting a healthy guy and trying to win this game,
First of all again we see why mid game melts in baseball are stupid

But who would you rocket surgeons have started? We couldn’t use any of the guys who started over the weekend. Given the injuries the staff was taxed as it was. We could have just as easily lost with one of the mid week guys in which case you’d be melting over that. And it wasn’t a season ending game if you lose

Yeah, it’s bafflng.
You play who you have. They were just bringing him back easy to get him ready for the rest of post season. Paul didn’t have a crystal ball to know how he would react after such a long layoff so he eased him into it.
Limiting his playing time is just smart baseball. Hopefully he will be back to his former self by supers and Omaha.
They don’t have much time left to hold him out and slowly get him slowly build up his playing time.
