I realize you guys are discussing whether or not LSU can beat Bama, but the best team I have ever seen is the 1995 Nebraska team. They didn't have any close games all season and humiliated a good Florida team in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship.

OK, back to LSU vs Bama...

However good Nebraska was, they didn't have two Heisman winners ( Charles White, Marcus Allen ) and three Hall of Famers on their club.

2012 Bama is an excellent team, but they're no 79 USC. And 2012 LSU is much, much better than 79 LSU. We have every chance to win this thing.

So let me understand...because an inferior LSU team almost defeated a great USC team 33 years ago, the current LSU team ranked #6 in the nation actually has a chance to win a game in their home stadium where they have won their last 22 home games? Cool. I would never have given LSU a chance without knowing that little tidbit.

Apparently many on this board don't understand that. Just giving a history lesson.

You are comparing apples to bowling balls. A much less talented LSU team knocked of #1 Florida in Tiger Stadium in 1997. LSU is ranked #6, has won 22 straight home games and it's past 2 regular season games against Alabama. It should go without saying that LSU has a chance to win on November 3. Many people wouldn't even consider it much of an upset.

1979 USC Trojans

Marcus Allen Future Heisman Winner
Chip Banks
Joey Browner
Ronnie Lott
Hoby Brenner
Dennis Smith
Jeff Fisher
Bruce Matthews
Don Mosebar
Anthony Munoz
Keith Van Horne
Brad Budde, Lombardi Award
Charles White, Heisman Trophy
Maxwell Award Walter Camp Award

Coach John Robinson
Coach Norv Turner
Coach Paul Hackett

The OP's point is valid. Bama ain't close to this team and this LSU team is far greater than our '79 Tigers.

The fans will make the difference on November 3rd.

Different time, with more teams in the league so many more players could make it to the NFL. That '79 U$C team was hard to compare anyone with, but the "best ever" or "most talented" is always subjective.

cant reaally say that. youre comparing a team that has already finished college and their pro careers to a team that still has freshmen that will eventually be on the list.

not really. will help but i doubt will be the difference maker.

The OP's point was that the 1979 LSU team that finished the regular season 6-5 played a superior 1979 USC team and only lost by 5 points. Regardless of how the 2012 Alabama team matches up to the 1979 USC team....considering that LSU is ranked #6, has won 22 straight at home and has beaten Bama in it's past regular season games, the OP's point isn't even relevant.

You're missing my point entirely. My point was that people are already conceding an LSU loss "Bama is unbeatable" threads, etc, when these two teams are much more evenly matched than the 79 contest that was much closer than expected.

I'm not missing the point. By the way, you are wasting your time trying to make a point to anybody who thinks ANY team is unbeatable.

Facemask happened...but the play should've never happened. It was clearly a false start. Should've have been 4th and longer

Disagreed. The OP's point is quite relative to people who feel Bama is unbeatable (if you've been paying attention you would have noticed that these people exist). Just because you don't happen to be one of those hopeless folks that doesn't invalidate the OP's point. You are wasting your time to argue otherwise.

First of all I didn't say "relative". I said relevant. If someone is trying to make a point that Bama is "beatable" by an inferior LSU team, the relevant references would be where LSU had previously beaten a #1 ranked opponent, Alabama or a Saban coached team being upset while being ranked # 1 or how may times another top 10 team had knocked off a #1 team. How the hell does a game that LSU actually LOST to USC 33 years ago validate that Alabama is "beatable" when they play LSU in 2012?
