Jay's going to hire two full-time staff with a PC and a recruiting coordinator. Neither PC or Assistant hitting coach would get that role.

That’s my point. PC won’t be the RC and the RC has to be one of the full time asst coaches, which is why I think Tulo is a long shot to be the hire here, even though he would be an awesome coach. But I disagree with you that the RC won’t be the asst hitting coach, as that already almost happened (see below).

J's hitting coach will be the volunteer assistant

This is certainly possible, but not a definite. The asst hitting coach could also be the RC since the guy is obviously not going to have to focus as much on hitting as that is Johnson’s area to coach too.

As an example, he offered a FT asst job to J-Bob Thomas with Tx. Tech who would have been both the RC and asst hitting coach here.

Anyone get the story on Jason Kelly from ASU? Seems like an odd situation. He interviews gets fired then disappears. What’s the true story?

I wouldn't have any problem if it were coach Childress as PC but I don't think it will be him.

I'd take him as PC in a heartbeat, but I think he'd be a head coach again in a year. I think coach Johnson probably is looking for some stability in a guy who doesn't really have head coaching aspirations. And that's not easy to find, as we know.

You see a few assistant lifers out there who are really successful but never become head coaches, here and there. I suppose LSU could offer a guy like Childress a little more money and maybe make him reconsider if it's worth all the effort and energy of being a head coach again, when he can make good money here and not have the extra headache. At 52 years old, he's far from old, but he's not super young either.

Is he still a candidate for the job? Seems like if he was the guy it would have been a done deal.

this means that Coach Johnson runs things his way, and does not take sh!t. Got to like that.

Keep going. You'll eventually be correct, and then you can tell us all about it.

The story I read either on this site or another (can't remember which) was that he was promised a spot on the new staff and the only holdover from the old one and when he refused to cancel the LSU interview and went anyway, the AD and staff at ASU felt some way about it and Kelly not showing any loyalty when the school showed it to him by keeping him around in the first place. I do not know if that is the complete story or truth, but does have plausibility as it is true that he was the only hold over from the old staff to the new.

As for him still being a candidate, I'd say he definitely is and just because the hire hasn't been announced doesn't necessarily mean he isn't the guy. I think it just means that Johnson is doing his due diligence and going through all the possible candidates and interviews before making a final decision.
