Don't think you're wrong OP. If we weren't gonna give him the full season to try again, why back out of the firing last year? Should have committed to it at the end of last season or to another full year, either one.

There was absolutely no positives for LSU in keeping Miles for even one more game.

The players may love Les, but you could see their constant disappointment this season.

They will love Coach O very much so.

It's a great move. No need to prolong the inevitable

What do you not get about the team is already losing games early in the season.. and many more likely were coming..

Now we can either get some new fire and win more games, look better, or use the excuse of not having a HC if we do continue to play poorly.

It's a win/win now.

Why keep around a coach who knows his job is gone. The aura of negativity around the program would have been awful and it would have been an awful experience for the fans and players. It's going to be a little rough on the players but it at least gives the fans excitement for the rest of the season. The fact of the matter is we aren't even competitive against bama right now and are probably the 5th or 6th best team in SEC west.

Because the putrid offense and two losses because of it (with a near third loss that should never have been close) were more than enough evidence that Miles had blown his final chance.

Did you even watch the game?
The thing that got Les fired was that the players didn't appear to be playing hard for him. Just watch Travin Dural on the last play, and on the penalty before. That's not playing hard.

I don't know if one of the reasons for the jubilation on here is a lack of historical perspective - I'm in my 20's but I'm an LSU football history nerd and I think that balances out my being spoiled by two National Championships by the time I was 12. LSU has had four great coaches and a whole lot of "meh" in between. One of those guys (Dietzel) was in the '50's.

By the way, I'm upvoting these downvote gifs; I love them!

He was given the chance to finish the season by firing Cam. He refused to fire Cam thus he chose to be fired himself.

I think it was bad idea to get rid of Miles four games into a season after eleven years. You let him finish out the season, and if we get trounced then you do it as soon as the final game ends. I think the fact that the "loss" was so controversial and that you can see the improvements in our passing game also weigh into it.

I'm betting Miles refused to unload Cameron and this was the result.

This is a business. This was an inevitable move that was not delayed so that maybe they can salvage this season (and get a head start on finding the next head coach). I think the best thing for the players on this year's roster was to make a change now. Things were looking extremely bleak and this may light some kind of spark. Miles had a 10+ million buyout - what do most people get when they get fired?

BTW,

I just read some VIP stuff from Shea. I won't spoil it or anything, but the team is absolutely excited about many of the new coaches brought in.. Absolutely thrilled.. to the point they were chanting for a few of the coaches..

So there already seems to be new energy and excitement.. which is nice to see..

No matter what, Miles had gone stale.

I say there would have been a spark had things been left alone - those guys were going to be PISSED after what they probably think was getting hosed on the plains. Now I'm afraid they might just have the air taken out of them.

You think the problem with the offense was effort or motivation of the players?

The spark will come from the immediate loss of Miles' confused and stale philosophy.

You will see the exact opposite of that.
