That's a whopping 11-11 ledger vs the SEC's Best HCs & Programs, vs schools that LSU must face to win the West and/or SEC titles
What was it you were saying about the Miles defenders "rationalizing" things?

Would it sound like this?
I am so damned hot and talented, I should never just have a single orgasm.... any bumbling idiot should be able to bring me multiples! I'm convinced that each and every one of the SI swimsuit models would be jumping at the chance to work with my "talent", if I could just get rid of my wife who's put up with my demanding, complaining, self-centered arse for the past 10 years.

Well, hell yeah! Who wants just one Big O? I'm not sure I know anybody has ever said, "eh, one is enough for me."
See the correlation....orgasms = championships!

people consider Steve Spurrier a great coach, and he only won one NC. Multiple SEC's yes, but he always lost games he should have won and it costed him several NC's.

Les Miles is not a great coach. He is an average coach at best.

Joey, you type more than I'm willing to read when you clearly don't understand the difference in winning in Les' 3rd year and in his 5th year. The guys that led LSU to a national championship last year, the heart and soul of the team, were Saban's recruits. The roster will be clear of Saban guys by next year, so him winning would be due to his players and philosophy entirely.
Maybe it's just coincidental that we go 7-5 the year after the majority of Saban's stud players leave.

You really are an idiot.
P.S. They're Miles' players

First and foremost, I am not sure I am ready to put the "great" tag on Les. But that isn't a knock against Les. In order to earn the "great" tag a coach would have to have longevity on his record by which he can be judged.
But I will tell you some things that he has done that I really appoved...
1) I thought he displayed absolute class in the way he handled the season after Katrina. From all I've read, including many quotes from players, he was a father figure to many of our players during that time. And he was also able to coach us to a phenomenal season in spite of all the adversity. I don't think many coaches have had to deal with such wide reaching disasters during a season...much less shine through one.
2) He has been a top notch recruiter while at LSU. The only coach that I would give an edge in this department over Les is Pete Carrol. Being that recruiting is the name of the game in college, I think being a great recruiter is one of the most important qualities of a college coach.
3) The Florida game last year. He was able to recognize that we would need to make all those 4th downs to win. He was not scared to take the unorthodox approach to go for it 5 times. His confidence carried over to the players. This game was one of my proudest as an LSU fan and I can directly attribute it to Les' coaching. On the flip side, this same aggressive style led to us getting blown out this year in some games because we didn't have a QB IMO. But I can live with being aggressive and always going for the throat even if it means sometimes having to eat crow.
Those are 3 examples of things of which I really approve. Don't get me wrong, he has done some things I really question as well. I dispise the co-coordinators and I still rue over some of the playcalling in the 7-6 Auburn loss. But I get the feeling that you dismiss anything good he has done and that you only focus on his negatives. There are 2 sides to the evaluation coin of any coach. Just my 2 cents.
FWIW, the jury will be out for many years to come on whether Les is a great coach. Was Tom Osborne a great coach? I think he was but it took him over 20 years to win his first title. Similarly for Bobby Bowden and Paterno...but it is undeniable that they were great coaches in hindsight. It is too early to tag "greatness" on Les, or Carroll, or Stoops, or Mayer, or Saban.

I meant by this time there are no lingering pieces of the past coach. It's all Les' coaches, style of coaching, players, way of doing things, etc.

Yet am most likely right about his coaching ability.

with Saban's players mostly on defense. what was bad last year? oh yeah...the defense.
it irks me when they say Miles will lose once Saban's players are gone as if Miles hasn't recruited at all. if Saban was here, he would have recruited the same players Miles got. give me a break.

Besides that ,how many of these magnificent 'Saban's Players' that somehow coached themselves or with Saban's help via osmosis were from the state of Louisiana ? A good bit were going to LSU even if Curley was still coaching.

It wasn't the players though; it's the scheme. Our defensive philosophy is terrible. It was last year under Pelini and it is now under Mallory/Peveto. It's much, much more scheme than players, and Les is in charge of all that. He has seen this problem for two years now.

That's why I try to say Saban's players instead of recruits. Les' biggest problem recruiting wise was his 2006 class though. Lots of issues with those guys.

Big names but all were very overrated the year we played them.
Virginia Tech was ranked #9 when we played them.
Eleven weeks later, after the full regular season and conference championship games were over, they were #3 in the BCS.
After a loss to 11-1 Kansas in the Orange Bowl, they finished #9 in both the coaches and AP polls.
I don't see how they were overrated at #9 in week 2 when they finished the season in exactly the same spot.

which really means very little by the time Miles' 3rd year rolled around. First, Miles had to develop the talent. Second, most of "Saban's recruits" would've come to LSU anyway. Third, there were plenty of Miles' recruits who contributed to the NC season. It's ok to hate Miles, but don't rely on bullshite reasons. If Miles had won the NC the year after Saban left, you might have something. But after 3 years, the argument is very weak.
