If you are one of those that believes LSU does not have a talent issue ask yourself this.

What would LSU and CBK record be and where would they be ranked with either Saban's or Kirby's talent?

Follow the 80-20 rule here. 80% of your wins come from talent. 20% from coaching and scheme.

Even Saban with average coaching puts him up in the 95%+ range. Bama has top talent (80%) plus average to above average coaching (15%+).

Are you asking where we'd be if we had last year's Heisman winner as our QB?

I thought I was clear. Where would we be with Saban or Kirby's roster? 6-0 and ranked 1 or 2, obviously.

That is where we want to be.

We can dissect scheme until the cows come home but a roster full of talent is the formula for where we want to be. A roster full of talent can make average coaches become legends (see Saban and his CFB coaching versus NFL, see Les Miles, see Kirby Smart, see Coach O) and rocket assistant coaches careers (see Joe Brady).

It’s more of a depth issue. We have some talented players, that are extremely young and raw.

We have no position that is rich with talented players, though. That will take time.

Exactly.

You need the Jimmys and Joes. Scheme and coaching just get you so far by itself. You need some difference makers along with too talent and depth to be in contention for a trip to Atlanta every year.

What made it clear for me was thinking about: if the NFL draft were to happen today, how many draft picks are playing for LSU outside of the DL?

Perkins will get there but not there now. Boutte would be drafted but not off current performance. Maybe some late picks of the other WRs potential? But they're hindered by Daniels' passing ability. We're basically only getting top tier performance out of the DL right now.

Yes. 100% correct.

Where we want to be is a talent rich roster like Alabama and/or UGA. That is the goal and you are right, it will take time, probably at least two years.

Well if games were won by talent alone we should be the 7th best team in the country behind a fourth ranked OU and a fifth ranked A&M.

I’d rather have John Rhys Plumlee. I saw him chunk a couple downfield last night.

We have not had the line of scrimmage linebacker or QB talent of Alabama for a decade.

Except Burrow.

LSU has had WR and DB skill talent all along

That graphic has some context you’re clearly lacking….

The key word on there is SIGNED in the last four classes. Most of those aren’t here anymore

It’s CBK first year gotta give him time, Saban has been at Alabama 15 yrs and Kirby 7 yrs at Georgia

That ranking is fools gold. For example Gilbert, Ricks and Stingley are included in that ranking.

Additionally in 247 ranking ( LINK) we have nice talent on the top end but a lot of those players are either bust, injured or freshman. On the bottom end we have the most scholarship players at 42 that were unranked by 247 and we only have 71 scholarship players. Despite having some nice top heavy talent on this roster we are historically low in overall talent by LSU standards.

Shhhh….don’t tell them that. That completely blows up their narrative. Those 247 ranks are completely accurate and any attrition or evidence to suggest that they may have been inaccurate to begin with are to be ignored.

If LSU has Hooker at qb, we're undefeated.
