Sure. But it is a semi-final this year so the LSU Tigers will not be invited this season unfortunately.

We'll have at least 3 losses and I assume Auburn will have 2 and Alabama none, so I'd assume Auburn would have a better chance that we will

So bama and auburn will end in a tie?

If we win out, we will most likely play in the Advocare Texas bowl in H-Town on 12/28.

Delusional. No it won't be on the table.

At 8-3, it is doubtful, but possible. The spots have to be filled though and I see a bunch of 3-5 loss teams at the end.

Sugar and Cotton are very much on the table.

Here's the breakdown for the 2016-2017 NY6 bowls:

quote:

2016-2017 College Football Bowl Tie-Ins For Each Conference College Football Playoff New Year’s Six Bowls

– Top four teams ranked by the College Football Playoff selection committee to be slotted in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. The two winners to play in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Tampa on January 9th.

– The highest-ranked conference champion from the American Athletic, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt automatically gets one spot in either the College Football Playoff or in the Cotton Bowl.

– Orange Bowl will be ACC vs. Big Ten, Big 12 or SEC

– Rose Bowl will be Big Ten vs. Pac-12

– Sugar Bowl will be Big 12 vs. SEC

Actually, I think the Cotton is more likely than the Sugar. Even though it's a NY6 game, the traditional matchup is between the Big12 champ and an SEC team.

If the Big12 champ doesn't get a playoff bid (for whatever reason), that team's a virtual lock for the Cotton. If they get their pick, they'll want someone that travels well and is a "worthy" opponent for the Big12 champ (probably Oklahoma or WV).

Assuming we win out (that's a big IF that we'll learn more about this weekend in PigVille), and Florida takes the East, and Bama takes the SEC, I'm guessing that the Sugar will take Auburn. That leaves the Tigers as the next best team for the Cotton.

The only fly in the ointment is that the Cotton picks higher than the Sugar this year. That said, I doubt they'd want Auburn over LSU. We travel better, have a better television footprint (especially in Texas), and we have history against both Oklahoma and West Virginia.

Yep, my money is on the Cotton - assuming we win out.

there's still talk that one of the Power5 conference champs will be left out of the playoffs. If that happens, expect there to be a lot of noise for giving them first precedence in a NY6 bowl.

Still talk? It's a guarantee under the current system of 4 playoff teams that at least one Power 5 conference champion will be left out of the playoffs. It's mathematically impossible for all 5 to make it in a 4 team playoff.

I guess it's "news" because the lonely Sally this year might be the Big12 (especially if Louisville wins out and Lamar Jackson brings home the Heisman).

If Louisville makes it in, along with the ACC champion Clemson, then that means 2 of the Power 5 conference champions will be left out. There's always going to be at least 1 left out.

If we win out, I can see us being more attractive than the SECE champ. It has happened before. We have to take care of business ourselves for that to come into play.

win out and we are 3rd in the pecking order behind bama and SECE champ

If LSU wins out, the only way an SEC-E team will get into an NY6 bowl is to pull an upset in the SECCG and get an automatic bid into the Sugar.

Every SEC-E team has 3+ losses already, except for Florida. But for LSU to win out, we'd have to beat Florida which would give them at least 3 losses in regular season. So unless SEC-E champ pulled a huge upset in title game, SEC-E champ is a 4 loss team by Selection Sunday.

That leaves possibly A&M, LSU, and Auburn with 3 losses to pick from. Unless LSU blows out A&M at the end of the season and the SEC champion is in the playoffs, I think the Sugar would go for A&M because of the Big 12 tie-in and added interest in the game from renewing an old Big 12 rivalry.

Cotton Bowl bids are both at-large spots, so LSU or Auburn could end up getting a spot there depending on who looks better to finish the season.

Don't forget that the bowls don't pick the teams - the playoff committee seeds the bowls.

quote:

The committee will assign teams to the non-playoff bowls to create the most compelling matchups, while considering other factors such as geographic proximity, avoiding rematches of regular-season games and avoiding rematches of recent years’ bowl games.

uh, that's a mathematical certainty. There are 5 Power5 conference champs and only 4 playoff slots.
