Yeah, no! Last year our oline got their shite pushed in by good defenses. This year our oline is probably a little better, but it’s not good enough to be a contender, not unless this defense is 2011 good. Maybe it will be. Our chance to have a good offensive line left when our only really good lineman left - Ingram.

Did you forget about the OL situation in camp last year? We were worried we might not have 5 healthy scholarship linemen. But they held it together, the freshmen stepped up, and we had decent OL play. Not saying they were great. I agree the pass protection was subpar but we were pretty good on the ground last year. The best front 7 we played was Bama, and nobody had a better yds/carry against them than we did.

And stats don't ever tell the full story. Look at Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson... They both had pretty "efficient" seasons at LSU and could barely sniff an NFL team.

Neither was ever anywhere close to Etling's two seasons except for Lee in 2011.

If you don't believe the stats, look at how Etling played on the final drive of games LSU trailed by one score or less. When the coaches finally opened up the passing game he was lights out and clutch AF to boot.

If you think Etling is worse than at minimum a slighly above-average QB and a really good QB by LSU's standards I can't help you.

Even Jefferson had better targets to throw to and still never came close to matching Etling's production.

Lee was as efficient in 2011, but only threw it 17 times a game (until JJ came back) for just 150 YPG.

I think we can all agree Tom Brady's backup is a better quarterback than Jarrett Lee.

The Etling hate on this forum is extremely irrational and the only explanation for it is that he was the starter instead of the backup.

I just don’t see how anyone could be so confident when our HC and OC are both proven failures at their current positions.

It sucks, but facts are facts.

Bill Belichick was 36-44 his 5 years at Cleveland and 5-11 his 1st year at NE. Sometimes your so called "facts" can be misleading.

memphis tiger, you're obviously ignorant and angry. I'll wait and see what happens before I deem our coaches failures.

I’m confused didn’t malik rosier and Miami put up 14 points 200 yards in the first quarter vs Wisconsin who had the #2 defense in the country and finished with 24 points without its top 3 offensive weapons but Miami won’t move the ball against LSU? Not to mention Miami has more depth now and is healthier with their star receiver Ahmmon Richards back and rosier’s shoulder is healed.

Honestly think the Miami’s defense vs LSU’s offense is more of a mismatch than LSU’s defense vs the U’s offense to be honest. Miami is returning a lot of pieces on offense from last year that have experience and added a lot of elite weapons. Not to mention richt and the staff are very confident on the 1st team oline who have improved a lot.

Well Memphis is in many threads trashing both O and E. It pisses him off when people get optimistic. He is one of those that "hopes he is right", not wrong.

Your offense was garbage last year against good defenses, especially your QB. This will be the best defense you have seen. If you can't run the ball, you are toast. Hey, don't believe us, that's cool. They play soon anyway. Lsu is more talented than Miami. They are essentially playing a road home game with majority of fans. If lsu loses this game, it will be a long year for them.

No, I didn’t forget. And I wrote that we would probably be a little better. I agree with everything you wrote - and I stand by everything I wrote. Our line is mediocre at best. If we contend it will be because of a smothering defense and an opportunistic, mistake-limiting offense. The line is going to get their asses kicked a lot this year.

But I think Orgeron is doing a good job rebuilding the offensive line. Hines, Charles, Deculus, and the 2019 guys will be formidable in another year.

This isn’t true, Miami played 8 top 50 (7 of the top 40) defenses last year, yes they had a bad performance vs Clemson but made plenty of plays against everyone else.

Once again fans hiding behind recruiting rankings, that’s not the end all be all. Have you seen how much nfl talent Miami has right now on its defense and offense for next years draft? It’s a lot
Miami loaded

And for your info Miami outrushed Wisconsin in the bowl game too and averaged more than 6 yards per carry, it won’t be a problem

Just the facts huh?

Coach Orgeron will not complete a pass or make a tackle. He has a roster full of outstanding athletes, quality at every position. He has proven assistant coaches throughout the staff.

Honestly, the Miami game is important, but the real test for the way this season is going to go is at Auburn. That will dictate what is going to happen the rest of the year.

What the hell does this even mean?

Do I hope I’m wrong about O and Steve, absolutely. But there is not one single thing in their history to suggest either is a championship caliber coach.

Both are unquestioned failures at HC and OC yet some of you idiots are literally saying “but Bill Belichick has a bad season too”

O is no Belichick and if you think he is, you are in for some disappointment.

Memphis,

Some people think this because coach STEVE has said this, and they want to believe the coach.

However, this game is going to give people like you plenty to bitch about. There will be penalties, and stupid maistakes made. Just like Miami. It is the first game. Eventually, LSU will win by using the size advantage and run the ball. Giving people like you a reason to bitch about a win...”we run the same damn offense!”

To the contrary, when LSU suits up against southeastern, the throw first will come out. THIS is going to be the positive change in the offense. No, i do not think that LSU will be an offensive juggernaut, but being more efficient in something other than a toss sweep will show up against the teams where it is needed.

Honest question, is this negative attitude the same way you go to a new restaurant, or a fishing trip??

Absolutely not.

My feelings on the 2018 LSU season are based on Orgeron’s history as the worst coach Ole Miss ever had, on the fact that he fired his biggest coaching hire after just one year and replaced him with an in house guy who has not been an OC in over 2 decades and was not a very good one then, based on Ed losing at home to Troy and an historic loss to a decent but far from great Miss State team, followed by the worst recruiting class this century.

All that combined with a the rest of the SEC seemingly getting better.

I’ll be watching next week pulling just as hard for LSU as anyone. But O has done absolutely nothing to inspire confidence and his history makes even cautious optimism seem a bit unrealistic. Especially when you look at the schedule and realize that at least 10 (maybe more) of the team’s we play have head coaches significantly more qualified than O.

I think a lot of you guys are happy going 8-4 maybe 9-3 withba meaningless bowl game and never really being in contention for the playoffs. We fired the last guy for that and his replacement should never have been a downgrade.

You make so many assumptions it is crazy.

No one person truthfully knows what the offense will look like.
While i hated the O hire, he coaches the team i follow. Thus, i am rooting for the team no matter who the coach is.
Half of the SEC has new coaches. Ole miss is still a dumpster fire. You CHOOSE to believe that they are improved. More so that LSU. When in fact, you don’t know.
O has done positive things: held on to Aranda. Hired Sullivan....age does not matter. NFL receivers come to him. He knows his trade. O has actually put together an analyst staff.

O is making you:

It's interesting that the poster refuses to see the the improvements to the LSU team yet assumes other teams will be better. He harps on things that make it hard to take him and several others here seriously. I try not to argue with them anymore it's best just to bookmark their ridiculous posts to laugh at them later when they try to
pretend that they weren't huge assholes

Been a while since we had a defense like this, with depth. Unless we have a disaster of an offense, this should be a salty team. Especially if the kicker is as advertised.

Agree 100%. I've been saying it's all going to be on how well these new offensive coaches do with all of this inexperienced talent. If we can just have a good offense, we can compete for the West. Have a very good to great offense and the sky is the limit.

“O is making you”

I gave Coach O the benefit of the doubt at the start of the 2017 season. I didn’t care for the hire at all, but I got into the “Air Canada” and “I have learned from my past mistakes” stuff. It took 5 games for me to see I had been feed a line of BS.

Coach O has no one to blame but himself for me being both eager and apprehensive bout the 2018 LSU football season.

I am most definitely in the, I will believe it when I see it crowd.
