Who would be in favor of bringing Kevin Steele back as DC? I think he fits what O likes in a coach; 4-3 defense and he’s old like Pelini but Steele always fields a good defense. Many don’t like him I know but you really can’t argue that he is steady and reliable.

eh, he had a mediocre defense at best when he was here.

Gus isn’t getting fired because LSU will make that shitty offense look unstoppable

The other thing is he had similar issues that Pelini has in miscommunications in coverage.

With that said, we most likely will give Bo the whole year and if things do get better, I doubt he gets fired anyway.

BUT, if we continue to look out of sorts on D, I'd be ok with Steele as a replacement. IDK if I'd make him the first choice but I'd def give him a call.

Isn't his buyout north of $20 million?

He isn't going anywhere this year.

Admittedly, I don't know if it is that high, but I can't see many AD's realistically being able to fire HC's with big buyouts remaining. Every athletic dept in the nation is taking a HUGE loss this year with spring sports being shutdown (including the NCAAT which AU would have been a part of) coupled with minimal fans attending football games. Football attendance is the single largest item of revenue for almost all (if not all) major college programs.

The AD may WANT to fire a HC. However, it might be financially unfeasible to do so this year.

Steele wouldn’t be my first choice but after barely hanging on so many mediocre years I just can’t see Malzahn squeaking by again if they continue to play like they did Saturday. Buyout or no buyout the fans will be calling for his head. How interesting would it be if Lane jumped from Ole Miss to Auburn just to get in Saban’s head and play in his backyard?

They'll light us up and he'll get an extension and raise.

I don't think Lane has the equity to take that risk. If he fails at Auburn then he would likely never get a HC job at a P5 school again. He'd be viewed as disloyal and risky.

Even if he never wins anything of note at Ole Miss, moderate success for 5 or so years would allow him to jump to a "bigger" school in another conference without risking what little is left of his reputation.

Gus is on the hot seat every season but then he beats Bama or UGA and they give him an extension.

Now some Auburn fans want Hugh Freeze but they change like the wind on the Plains.

Yep, he sure is, and in the SEC, most seats stay fairly hot every year. The money being paid to these guys and in turn the tremendous pressure, yep few seats are cooler than very warm at least.

no one is getting fired this year, anywhere... covid screwed up anything and everything and no one has the funds this year... hell, it would be hard to next year with the residual effects monetarily wise...

I for one do not want the wheels on the Gus Bus to fall completely off. A flat or two is fine but let's keep rolling with Gus - it's fun to watch from afar

Fire Gus is something that we hear every year. The bottom line is he's one of the few coaches that beats Saban regularly so what else do they want. He's won two out of the last three meetings with Alabama, so he will be fine. Gus is best when all the chips are down and everyone is calling for his firing. Unless we find another DC, they will mop us up and that will surely ring big for Auburn fans. Gus is fine!

Gus will have a losing record but find a way to beat Bama and they’ll give him another extension.

His buyout is like $15 million too. I know Auburn likes to eat big buyouts but I think we'll see less of that this year with revenue declines from Covid.
