Even with the funny math they are using, statistically this is a small percentage of overall US deaths and not much deadlier than pneumonia and flu.

This is a different form of heart damage. Diabetes and hypertension don't cause myocarditis.
However, the article acknowledges that the risk is unknown and likely small at this point:
