Also, the NCAA rule states that an illegal shift is a dead ball foul. Not only should the previous play not have existed, the time should have been placed back on the clock and the clock should have started on the snap.

Pretty easy fix because we know the results of the next play....it was a td.

A 49-10 loss should disqualify a team from playoff consideration.

This is twice in two years where SEC games gave been decided by home clock operators. It's time for a change in that system. Maybe the visiting team should control the clocks moving forward.

This crap all started back when Saban talked his way into title game with LSU over Oklahoma State. The perceived best team or teams vs the team or teams that won an deserved to play. Every game should count penn state beat Ohio state head to head

This is a weak argument. If anything, it makes the case for the two best teams.

As much as I'd have loved for LSU to beat Okie Lite, finish 14-0 and with the NC, Alabama was the best team that year. The computers got it right.

It didn't work out well for us, but they got it right.

A conference championship should matter too...which neither Ohio State nor Michigan have. So there's that...

Penn State has more losses. Should USC go to the playoff over Washington too?

USC won the PAC 12?

The fact that this is even a discussion is laughable. The conference champion beat the team that is being lobbied to get in over them. End of story. This whole situation is asolutely ridiculous.

Brand recognition bias will always exist when you have a flawed system. The notion that a major conference champion does not qualify for a chance to play for the national championship in favor of a team that didn't win its own division in said confetence leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. True. PS had two losses including a blowout to Michigan. Those were very early in the year losses though. Conversely, Michigan and OSU had their only big out of confetence wins when Oklahoma came off a bad loss to Houston, and Colorado fell to the Wolverines in early September. You can make the Penn State case they were better at season's end and deserved the shot.
Only way to fix college playoffs is to expand to eight teams, with all power five champs automatically entered, and three at large teams based on current parameters in place. Teams 9 thru whatever have no real gripe with this scenario. Would only take one extra week and involve seven bowls to implement, leaving plenty of average squads to go bowling to please their fan base .

Not sure why this is not discussed more as its the most sensible solution.
